The All-Access Pass
They're here - the shiny, rectangular all-access passes to your favorite indie-rock festival, Noise Pop. According to their press release, these badges will "...grant access to all general admission Noise Pop shows, film screenings, happy hours and other happenings during the festival." Yes. We want one.
Don't delay; Noise Pop is offering a ticket to one of two already sold out Magnetic Fields shows with the purchase of the Noise Pop Badge. Apparently this show was sold-out in minutes! Talk about an awesome extra bonus. You can also grab tickets to the other shows (The Mountain Goats, The Gutter Twins and Cursive) at their website as well.
Their press release continues:
However, a limited number of festival badges will include one ticket to either the Thursday, February 28 or Friday, February 29 show as a free gift for those who purchase between now and December 31, 2007. This holiday offer is only good while supplies last. Noise Pop 2008 Festival badges are priced at $175. Visit the Noise Pop Shop for more information or to purchase.
With the holidays coming up, we think we will go with SFist's shopping credo: "One for me, one for you." Sounds good to me.

I've only lived here four months, so someone explain this to me: the shows listed on the website aren't all the shows are they? $170 seems really steep for such a limited schedule.
They add SO MANY MORE SHOWS!!!! Tons and tons!

I'm sorry, but that $170 pass is SO not worth it. I had it last year, showed up early and was still turned away from the Mezzanine at one of the few shows I REALLY wanted to see. Why? B/c it was overbooked by Noisepop. Also, you can't get in w/ this pass unless u are there w/in the first what, 30 mins? Anyway, you have to sit through all the shitty bands at 8pm to be able to hear the band you really want to hear band ...usually on by 10pm. Basically, show up late and you are shit out of luck for the rest of the night at all shows.
Also had one last year and gotta agree with kinnaree. $170 is too much and is both more expensive than buying individual tickets and less flexible since you must arrive early to get in. The only reason to get a badge is if you discover at the last minute that all the shows you must must see are sold out.
Even with a badge, I couldn't go between the Swedish American Hall and Cafe Du Nord last year--and they share an address. So if you have illusions of flitting from show to show with your "all-access" pass, you can forget it.
My guess for why it is a raw deal is that the club owners do not get revenue from the badge-holders (other than drinks), so they have little incentive to treat them well. But they have to allow the badges to be associated with the festival, so they do the minimum possible with the 60-minute after doors open policy. Still, that's just a guess.
All that said, I still love Noise Pop and have discovered several new favorite bands at past events. I will just be buying individual show tickets this year.
