I just thought you had to have some major background knowledge of the show before seeing the John Doyle production and personally I think that&apos;s a no-no.  Since I had no background knowledge (except singing Jo-Anna over and over in my musical theatre class) I think I missed most of the metaphors and kept thinking, &quot;What the hell just happened?&quot;

Looking forward to this bloody, murderous Christmas opening... (seems more appropriate for Halloween than Christmas...)&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<description>&lt;p&gt;Word. I wasn&apos;t at all sold on the John Doyle production. I know Sondheim is a big fan now of his works getting stripped down. (An intimate Follies? Yeech.) But I think he works best spilling out over the stage. 

But I do hear that the film version is swell. Looking forward to it. (Although HBC&apos;s &quot;Worst Pies In London&quot; does leave something to be desired.)&lt;/p&gt;</description>
