Do You Have That Cold Going Around?

sneezy1.jpgSeems like all our friends are getting sick with that weird cold/flu that's going around town -- what with the cold weather and pre-holiday stress, we guess we're not too surprised about it, but still.

So do you have that cold? Are you getting over it? Because we have a question if so -- how did your cold start? We've been coughing a little and we're wondering if we're coming down with something. How long did it last? Is this going to affect our holiday plans if we catch it in the next few days?

Well, we're going to wash our hands, get some echinacea over a warm chicken soup lunch, and load up on the Airborne -- but we hope the rest of you guys sniffling out there are feeling better soon!

it sucks. most people have it for 8 days. the only way to get over it is to take a huge dose of nyquil and sleep for 12 hours straight.

some folks have had it for weeks.

For goodness' sake, people, take a day off and learn to rest. While you are absorbing the healing powers of daytime television, slam as much Theraflu as you can stomach. That will take care of the worst of it. Then live with the lingering cough for a week.

Duh-- they're totally off snowboarding!

Yup had it. I had it for almost 2 weeks. I don't like taking medication so I took a more holistic approach but I did stay home during all that time so as not to infect my poor co-workers. god bless telecommuting. Mine started with that tired fluey feeling. Eventually it did turn into a full blown cold with sore throat, coughing, runny nose. Hope you miss it.

Happy holidays.

I had the cold for about a week and a half right after thanksgiving. It was brutal and I never get sick. Couldn't breath very well... My sinuses got so swollen my jaw started to hurt and it irritated my gums. Roommate had it as well and his cough is still around (4 weeks now)... sucks.

Some nose spray, OJ, nyquil, Tylenol and season 1 and 2 of twin peaks cured me.

I started feeling the first symptoms (scratchy throat) on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and it really wasn't gone for about a week. It was a garden-variety cold. For me, colds create a slight fever, dehydration, runny nose, sore throat. I rarely cough and I don't get headaches nor nausea. Loss of appetite is typical. No muscle aches (only the flu does that to me).

The best thing to do is take Theraflu and sleep in your warmest pj's. This is a miserable cold. It's a fever, nagging cough that gives you both a sore throat and pain in the chest. The body aches and it's impossible to get warm.

Once you turn the corner, you'll still have that nagging cough which will last about two weeks.

The cold comes on fast and strong and it comes from folks who are coming to work when they should be in bed.

I was handling these not-so-healthy looking chickens in Cambodia a few days ago and all of a sudden people started dropping around me like flies.

Except for the ones I've caught from my wife, I haven't had a cold since I started obsessively, compulsively (OK, disciplinedly, since O.C is no laughing matter) washing my hands 12 times a day. And I carry a bottle of that alcohol gel stuff around for emergencies, like when I have to touch anything on BART except my ticket.

I even work in a place with a no sick leave (at least to the extent they can get away with complying with SF's law) and no-telecommuting policy, which pretty much guarantees that 20% of the workforce is in the office and trying to sneeze on me.

Stop being such a bunch of pussies

It could have been my roommate, or my coworker, but I'm pretty sure that I caught my 2-week cold just by taking the 38 bus to work. Can they just wipe those buses down with Lysol at the end of the day? Seriously!

Afrin really helped, but I had to stop using it after 3 days (per the request of my doctor-sister). I switched to a saline nasal spray.

Oh, and my voice sounded like the forbidden lovechild of Stephen Hawking and Fran Drescher. Not the best first impression for all those job interviews this month.

I'm on day three of the coughing cold. I just got over the non-coughing, two-week cold earlier this month. It's a bummer, for sure. Get your rest, Rita and feel better!

Yeah, going on a week and a half now. I wonder if I'd have beaten it if there hadn't have been constant holiday parties with delicious free alcohol all over the place.

Me too. I coughed for about 4 weeks. It started after Thanksgiving... with an itch in my throat and a tickle in my sinuses. It climaxed with the gut-wrenching coughing jags about 16 times/day. I had that fever part, too. I am certain that I picked up this holiday treat from the 6/7/71 -- (aaargh at the Haight Street buses!). I did the Airborne until it gave me an upset stomach. The flu shot that I received in October did nothing. That bug sucks and I can only hope that I am Virus Free for the remainder of the Winter. Wash your hands, all!

A couple of days of sniffles. Or maybe that's just my excuse to slam Nyquil.

Does Airborne (or its sassy generic cousin, "Airshield") actually work?

I just got very very dizzy for about a solid week. Not fun in the least.

had it for almost 2 weeks as have most of my friends. nasty one this is. one friend had it for 3 weeks.

tried the holistic approach [zinc, emergenC, echinacea] in the beginning and got sleep but it stayed. the best thing was nyquil and more sleep.

toward the end i remembered my neti pot [purchased at rainbow] and that finally kicked it. google it and laugh all you want, but it helped immensely.

It all started when Jennifer Seibel kissed someone at the Getty Birthday Party and then later kissed Gavin. Gavin then shook hands with Willie, willie rubbed his nose and then rode muni, sneezed, passed along the virus to 20 in Chinatown. Sadly. One of them worked at SFist and now it is out of control!

I had it. Few days sore throat, runny nose, and very weak/tired. Garlic, ginger, and yin chao were useless. Bags of Riccola helped a bit. Cough syrup with DM knocked me out and reduced the misery. Then 5 days laryngitis-missed alot of work 'cause my patients couldn't hear me on the phone -or it scared 'em. Finally a mild lingering reminder cough for about 3 weeks now. I just want to know who gave this to me. I don't know anyone at SFist.
