Stolen Saturn Kills Two
During a hot pursuit, two men in a stolen Saturn -- a Saturn?! -- went through a red light, crashing into another car and killing two men inside the latter automobile. It seems that stolen vehicle was traveling east on Page Street when fuzz from the SFPD noticed that the car was swiped. Police then went after it, flashing lights and all, which resulted in this morning's fatal crash.
The two suspects are being treated for minor wounds after the were formally arrested. What's more, according to Chronicle, as of 8 a.m. this morning "the Saturn was also still at the scene. Its hood was disconnected and its trunk was slightly ajar, showing a boom box." Hmmm, whatever that means. Aaanyway, the 24-Divisadero "has also been fully restored," according to CBS 5. It appears that the line was at a northbound Haight street stop because of the crash.
Also, if pressed, why would someone steal an American car? Strange.

Saturns are the easiest cars to steal. The '94 (or some other mid-nineties model) is always topping lists as the most stolen car.
The commotion woke me up this morning--it's only a few blocks from home. Really sad, especially because it wasn't the bad guys who got killed (I'd still be sad for them), but some innocent people just driving down Divis., minding their business.
So depending on how the suspects are charged, San Francisco may now be at 100 murder victims?
Is that right?
murder? yea right. some kind of low-level vehicular manslaughter, since they can't argue intent, and since all know how the prosecution rate 'round here is going. the victims' families will be lucky if the defense doesn't spin something like "they were coerced into a speeding situation which made them get into an accident involuntarily and beyond their control". blah blah. the cops shouldn't have been chasing them, you see?
This is really sad & disturbing -- which makes the snarky tone of this SFist post really grating. But, since I'm hard-pressed to name one blog that doesn't give into that tone, I guess I have to put up with it to get news.

Just FYI that's not the Saturn in the photo. Looks like a Chevy Cavalier. Should I not admit I know that?
i live across the street, i watched the fireman use the jaws of life to remove the driver from the car. i assumed he was dead at the scene because i saw no life saving measures made before they put him in the ambulance. the fire department then peeled the roof of the car off and covered something in the passenger seat with a yellow fabric and removed that from the car. when i saw the report this morning i learned that 'object' was in fact the second body. please try and have some respect and save the snark. i for one am really shaken and saddened but what i witnessed this morning. two people lost their lives. it could have been anyone of us.

Good God. I go away on vacation, and this happens a block away from my house. I hope to God Kamala Harris can - just this once - see to it that these killers actually get punished. Like I said, I'm on vacation... 300 miles away... can anyone think of a good reason why I should come back?
