How Does Your Favorite Restaurant Rank, Healthwise?

This new joint in the SOMA just scored a 97, which is not bad at all.

Here's what you do. You go to Clean Scores and then type in the name or address of your favorite restaurant. Then you'll find out the hygiene rating of most restaurants in San Francisco based on official inspections by the Department of Public Health. Or just poke around on either the good list or the naughty list. Read all about it. And be sure to look for alleged racial bias in media coverage of this inspection program while you're at it.

The little card with a numerical score of the most recent inspection is not required to be on public display. However, the complementary Inspection Report must be posted in an obvious place as you walk in. Based on what we've seen, compliance with this public notice requirement might not be fully at 100% yet.

But before you conclude that you should cook dinner at home this week, think about how your own personal kitchen at home would stack up under the scrutiny of an inspector. We could all learn a thing or two about proper food handling from these food handling specialists employed by our fair city. Probably. Just saying. Anyway, bon appétit!

naan and curry, what a surprise. that place is a shithole on wheels.

This site is a beautiful thing.

I intentionally keep my kitchen dirty just so I don't have to worry about such trifles.

anyone else watch kitchen nightmares? gordon is my hero. how'd you like to have him come to your office and toss your worthless boss or coworkers on the street saying 'i think this place would run better without you'.

he's the best!

Anyone notice the system in L.A. that requires all restaurants to post a big letter "A", "B", or "C" in their window, depending on what grade they got when inspected?

I wonder if L.A. restaurants are a lot more sanitary than their S.F. counterparts because of this...

Great, my fave place in Chinatown is a filthy hellhole infested with "employees with infectious disease," cockroaches, lack of handwashing, etc., etc., infinity.

Meh, it's still tasty. And it gives my immune system lots of practice flexing its muscles.

Oh Man! The Taco Bell at 7 Drumm Street got a perfect score! Like I need any more incentive to eat there...

My original proposal included the LA-style letter grade. The Golden Gate Restaurant Association weighed in heavy against and killed that part of the proposal. Now I actually like the numeric score better than the letter grade. If I could only force posting in the front window, you'd read that the Balboa Cafe scores a...

i can only imagine how bad a score any restaurant would get if you were in the business mr. daly. i'm sure you'd find it hard to separate your compassionate human feces platform from the entrees.

google maps 2.0 on your phone/pda has integrated this stuff on the tab for additional info about the restaurant. very cool!
