I saw one of these today in the excelsior cruising down Mission. it said 10 limited on it which was really weird because a) the 10 line doesn't go anywhere down Mission that far and b) there's no L version. It looked pretty cool, no more lumbering than the jointed MUNI busess.

No, no. The design is clearly a nod to Love American Style. Not that it matters. Larger space on Muni coaches = A GOOD THING, with the paintjob being almost beside the point. Actually, the more I mull it over, the more I fucking LOVE these buses. The 2 layers: A) Increase bus capacity while B) Freeing up valuable traffic space for other vehicles, and C) Boost the city's largest industry (tourism). And mucho kudos for the hearts. The heart campaign is marketing genius for Ess Eff. Whichever ad agency whipped it up should get a big, fat bonus. Betty & Earl on vacay from Kansas eat that shit up. (And pony up good money to do so.) It plays into some already existing themes and landmarks. The Summer of Love? Check. Gay marriage? Check. San Francisco is the City of Love, Philly be damned. And the ubiquity of hearts reinforce that meme, even if the SoCal-ish palm trees don't. This town is already practically a Hallmark card. Might as well get paid for it. See you on the 38.

As a daily MUNI rider, my first thought was: Oh great, instead of just the usual bottlenecks at the doors as people fight to get on and off we're going to have an additional bottleneck as people try to get up and down the stairs. Ugh. Good luck, MUNI!

Great concept, but I hope it will fit tall people on the top deck. I'm 6.5 and have this image of having to crawl to a seat. I can't fit thru BART or MUNI doors without bending down. Hope the other freaks of nature like me can use these buses. If not, I guess we can always do a head split brain splat and sue.
