Holy Crap!!! Bernie Ward Busted On Child Porn Charges
Say it ain't so, Bernie!
Wow. Former Catholic priest and SF radio talk show host has been "indicted on federal child pornography charges," according to the Chronicle.
It seems that the popular KGO 810 AM host turned himself in to authorities earlier today. Although the "specifics of the allegations against him are under seal," said the authorities, we're dying to know exactly what happened. Because: whoa. Like, really.
In addition to being a reporter for KGO, Ward hosts both "the Bernie Ward Show" and "Godtalk." (Bet he yearns for the halcyon days of only having to apologize to the Jewish community.) More -- much, much more -- on this later.
Update: According to Dan Noyes at ABC7:
Ward’s attorney, Doren Weinberg, tells the I-Team the charges relate to Ward’s book project from several years ago. According to Weinberg, Ward was exploring "hypocrisy in America", and decided to look at child porn – how it’s acquired and hidden from society. As part of the research for the book, Weinberg says Ward acquired several images of child porn from websites, and "he exchanged them with adults who do the same thing."

The article makes it seem like more of a Pete Townsend situation than actual wrongdoing.

Isn't it possible for Bernie and Pedo Pete to "research" this topic without purchasing and/or trading actual child pornography? You think maybe it'd be a good idea to inform the police beforehand if you were going to "research" such a topic? Either these guys are indeed scumbags or they posess incredibly bad judgment. Either way, I wouldn't leave them alone with children.

Wow. "I was doing research." Where'd he get that excuse? One of the kids? That's right up there with, "I was holding it for a friend."
I've been a long time listener of Bernie Ward's KGO radio program. He is a gem of a human being that has helped countless of souls. I'm proud to stand up for him and his family in his time of trouble.
I'm not sure whether or not he's guilty. But seeing as how he's a reporter and has access to an editorial office and staff, it seems that he could have gone through the proper channels to "investigate" something as touchy as child porn.

I'm still not sold on the idea of the Pete Townsend situation not being a big deal, either, by the way.
Not just downloading but uploading too. His lawyer cleverly leaves that out of his defense. You'd think that in the years this has been pending that Bernie Ward would have produced the 'hypocracy book' he claimed to be writing. Wonder if KGO will agree to let Ward do the show from the Graybar Hotel.
