Port of Oakland Death

Non-union member Edward Hall, 47, was crushed to death by a tractor-trailer at the Port of Oakland. It seems that a driver (accidentally) backed into Hall last night as he was working. This is the second fatal accident to have happened at the Port of Oakland this year, which happened in September.

According to the Examiner, "ILWU spokesman Craig Merrilees said this latest incident highlights the need for better safety protocols at the port." And criminal charges against the tractor-trailer operator. Be careful out there, port workers.

I hope they're not allowing big boats try to navigate the Bay Bridge right now - the fog out there is pretty similar to that Wednesday morning a few weeks ago when the oil spilled into the Bay.

criminal charges? don't these things have huge back up warning sirens? that guy was obviously not paying attention to the truck bearing down on him. lame!

What's with SFist's obsession with death? The other -ists don't seem obligated to give us an 11:00-news-style rundown of the day's murders and accidental deaths. Seems kind of out-of-sync with the content of the Ist-a-verse...
