New Tunes Tuesday #12
Each Tuesday we will feature new music that should (or whatever) be on your radar.
Standouts:

1. Eric Hutchinson - Sounds Like This: A couple of weeks ago, our previous editor at Phillyist texted us from Hutchinson's concert saying, "Have you heard of Eric Hutchinson? You'll love him." We promptly checked out his Myspace page and instantly downloaded his impressive debut, "Sounds Like This." He became an overnight sensation when bitchy blog queen, Perez Hilton, made a music recommendation on his gossip blog. This simple recommendation catapulted Hutchinson into the top ten most downloaded albums on iTunes and over 3,000 friend requests on Myspace in one day.
Hutchinson's music walks a fine line between rock, folk-pop, powerpop and sometimes even jazz and funk. We think he sounds like a cross between Jamie Cullum, Jason Mraz and Josh Kelley. The Boston singer-songwriter is destined for success with this strong of a debut. There's definite soul to his music - something that is usually lost in most pop albums.
Download: "Ok, It's Alright With Me" and "Rock & Roll"

Past Hits You Might Have Missed:
1. PlayRadioPlay! - The Frequency EP: This particular EP has been out since April '07 but we only recently became acquainted. Actually, nothing else has been playing since we got the CD in the mail on Thursday. At six songs - over and over - you might think it would get boring, but it doesn't! This 18 year-old kid, Dan Hunter, got signed by Stolen Transmission when he was a senior in high school and is a product of the Myspace era, having over eight million plays on his Myspace page.
PlayRadioPlay! seems to be the kid brother of The Postal Service with the similar vocals and electronic sound. Hunter, the one-man band of PlayRadioPlay!, is unpretentious and seemingly naive yet he's found success by making music only with his Macbook Pro. He's found a musical niche that is highly sought over and has written music that is catchy, inventive and youthful. In "At This Particular Moment in Time," he sings, "I can see why you pick them over me...because I'm not eighteen, yet." His inventive cover of The Killers' "Mr. Brightside" is, we dare-say, better than the original. (Crazy, we know!) PlayRadioPlay! isn't coming to San Francisco anytime soon, but his full-length album will be available in 2008.
Download: "Bad Cops Bad Charities" and "Compliment Each Other Like Colors"
Please Let Us Know What You Think About:
1. Blake Lewis - Audio Day Dream: With this strong of a debut, it would seem that Lewis has been in the music industry for years. Our favorite Idol, from this past season of A.I., has released a modern, 80's-inspired pop record that focuses on his strengths instead of selling out to the producer. Because of this, Lewis will have an extremely successful career.
2. Daft Punk - Alive 2007: This is a live recording of their Alive 2007 tour that includes crowd favorites: "Around the World", "One More Time" and "Harder Better Faster Stronger."
3. Kylie Minogue - X: This CD is the CD that Britney should have released. Ten albums later, Kylie is still producing sexy fun pop music - something that Britney can only dream about.
4. Wyclef Jean - Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant: We can't get over that Serj Tankian and Wyclef Jean collaborated! (Listen here.) The new album is out today, though it seems that only the EP (released in September) is available on iTunes. (?)
5. Nelly Furtado - Loose (Live in Concert): We've been crushing on Nelly Furtado since we heard "I'm Like a Bird." Unfortunately we didn't get to see her live this year, but thankfully we can pick up this 11-track live recording.
