Yes, It's That Time of the Year Again
Saturday is what's known around these here parts as "the Big Game," a kinda cute nickname for a game usually not of any importance to anyone other to us NorCal folks. This game, in particular, doesn't have much going for it as Stanford, with the exception of the 'SC upset, hasn't been very good and Cal has been more disappointing than Fred Thompson's candidacy. Nevertheless, the game is always pretty exciting and full of tradition-- all the things that makes college football what it is.
Also, this year marks the 25th Anniversary of "the Play." Yeah, you've probably seen it a million times and yeah, you've probably seen it a million times this week, but it's still awesome. And here it is again.
Ya know, we always felt sorry for John Elway after that game-- a world class QB playing on a whole bunch of not very good Stanford teams and this, his final season, was Stanford's one big chance to go to a bowl game, and the whole thing was ruined by a freakish play involving a trombone player. Of course, we grew up as huge fans of the Cleveland Browns -- and, well, screw John Elway.

it's Big Game, not The Big Game, isn't it?
oh, and dude was down at midfield.
Big Cal shindig at Harrington's right now .. meh
I don't think watching it again could possibly ever grow old.
Still epic after all this years. I still get goosebumps every time at that moment where Joe Starkey says "they tried to do a couple (of laterals), the ball is still loose!" Magic. The only thing missing from this version of the video is Starkey's call when the refs finally call it a touchdown: "The most amazing, sensational, dramatic, heart-rending, exciting, thrilling finish in the history of college football."
P.S. it's "The Big Game" just like it's "The Play," but you take 80 or 13 to get there.
And maybe his knee was down and maybe there was a forward lateral in there, but after the dude creamed the trombone player, they pretty much had no choice but to call it a touchdown.
