SFist Photo: Mavericks Surf Contest® Waiting Begins

This is how the contest looked from atop the crowded bluff back in aught-5. Even the bigger version of this shot lacks detail as all the action occurs about a half-mile away from shore.

The start of the Mavericks Surf Contest time window has been pushed up to Pearl Harbor Day. So December might be the time that you'll be able to head down to San Mateo County to see experts catch all those tasty waves. Except that things will be different this time, so you could be better off watching the action on the boob tube. Details after the jump.

This is what the bluff can look like on game day:

Here's the deal -- there's just too many of you energetic little rascals. If you're not raising Hell eating pizza at 2:30 AM you're forming large crowds trying to clean up the oil spill. The authorities will not abide this time. They know that tens of thousands of you will want to drop everything and head south as soon as you hear the call via text message or email.

Oh, the humanity!

So, we're going to have blocked streets, parking fee$ and a roped-off bluff this go around. Maybe you'll be better off just heading over to AT&T Park for the simulcast or watching on the Internet? You'll probably be able to see the action better.

Or, just pay for a $275 boat ride. That way, you'll see views like this.

Your choice.

Well, things are still in flux. Views might still be available from north of the Pillar Point Air Force Tracking Station on top of the bluff.

"Hey you kids, stop having fun!"
