Calling Into Question Double Decker Bus Aesthetics

Let's face it, underneath all of our progressive thinking and alleged altruism, we're a vain city. Thank God. After all, we are Californians nestled in a land of impossible waistlines and beauty. That said, is the above image what the double decker buses will look like? (Minus the tasteful Las Vegas backdrop, of course.) Hmm, we really didn't think this through. We thought that we'd be seeing ever so charming red double decker buses climbing up the hills of SF, filled with people spouting out dry humor while having a spots of tea. "The Deuce" here is, well, pretty ugly. (As are these.) The above auto unit will be similar to tthe ones we will see. Very soon.

Needless to point out, we're worried. If any of you see a double decker bus chugging along, do take a shot and send it to us, won't you? They should be in operation any second now. Or something like that.

I just have a mental image of one of them being toppled in a moment of youthful excitement. (Either from the inside or outside.)

Ehhh...when it comes to MUNI, there are FAR more important things at this point than whether the buses are pretty, like whether they're part of a working system, are cost-efficient, aren't full of homeless and gang-bangers, etc, etc, etc.

(It pains me to say this, as I do appreciate a well-designed vehicle...but there you go.)

Uh, hate to spoil your aesthetic virginity but the city already has had big red double decker buses trolling it's streets for years. They are operated by tour companies.

hey, I've got an idea, maybe get off your pooter once a day, and walk around the city...maybe even take a bus tour. perhaps take your own photos, and quit using SF Gate for nearly every snarky reference you post.

We're well aware of the tour buses. We were referring to public transit buses. For people who live in San Francisco.

I can't wait for the first dramatic accident.

Maybe decapitations as the top of the bus hits the side/top of the stockton tunnel?

A bus that has a side-heavy weight mass, and tumbles out of control in flames down a hill?

If they roll up 6,7, or 71 way, I'll be happy with them. As long as they don't stop to wait for imaginary relief drivers at Van Ness.

Well, the open-top tourist ones don't look all that safe; I regularly see tourists attacked by vicious trees along Battery.

What Agent 510 said.

While I bow to no one with respect to my civic vanity, voicing concerns about how Muni looks is like pulling aside a gunshot victim while he's getting a transfusion and asking, "How do you feel about the font on the label of your blood bag?"

I don't really give a fuck. Just fix the Municipal Transportation Agency, would you? Thanks.

it's only here on for a test, so who cares what it looks like? it won't be run in tunnels, so mariconsoy, your head won't pop off. not due to transit related decapitation anyway.

On the plus side, locals sound like indignant Stewie Griffins when seeing them for the first time.

"What the deuce ... ?"

I think they are cool. And the "peeping-tom" views into apartments from the second deck could make your commute more interesting.

I don't see it working with the slow system that we have already. I get this image of waiting at stops for people to de-board from the top deck.

hey MUNI could use an interactive 2 story toilet and here we go...maybe we'll get lucky and we'll have a gang war between the tops and the bottoms....
