Ask a Muni Security Guy

dragnet3.jpgRemember that story our Muni Security Guy told us about that fracas between some security dudes and a bus driver? Well, you got comments and we got responses and we also got further updates which we'll post later. And remember, if you have any further questions you'd like to ask either our Security Guy or Bus driver, just drop us a line at jon@sfist.com

Let's get it started...

"All MTA employees get to ride for free, provided they have their employee badges with them." Question for the Muni Security Guy, isn't it illegal for the fare inspectors to detain a person? If so, are there any exemptions, for example an assault on the fare inspector or other Muni personnel?

Yes, MTA employees ride for free. This particular gentleman had an large overcoat over his uniform and refused to show his uniform, let alone show a MTA ID. He was apparently late and not all there (mentally) due to the way he went off and started the fiasco.

POP inspectors are trained to be customer service oriented so if he had ID OR otherwise shown he was legit, no big deal, but mr. muni driver did not do that.

This guy has a "reputation" for being against authority.

It's illegal for fare inspectors to detain people??? That's tragic. I think they should be armed. Heavily.

Generally, yes but not when defending themselves. Like any other citizen, they may place the person under citizen's arrest and wait until the police arrive.

One got me and I told him I was just going to fuck off because he wasn't allowed to detain me. He then followed me to work, walking two feet behind telling me I was going to get arrested. The security guard wouldn't let him in the building because he had no ID. I finally found my transfer when I was in the elevator. He wasn't lurking outside at lunch time.

Well, have your transfer ready to begin with and no problems, fuss or muss.

The real question here is...
Can they turn this into one of those "A Day in the Life of a MUNI Employee" art posters?

Already pitched as part of that presentation and passed on.

Sounds like they needed an assistant, like the 15 year old ass-capper from the Metreon.

The way things are running now, don't be surprised when they hire some to handle POP.

I feel secure knowing that we have such zany drivers operating 5 ton buses.
Don't union rules allow drivers to be able to punch- out someone who pisses them off, up to ten times a year?

You have to catch them first - like what the Union wants of employees stealing fares, catch them at least twice before and on the third time, it moves to discipline (potential).

Wow. It's a good thing the public doesn't have to depend on this guy for their safety. No wait. My guess is he works the 38 line. But I'd believe the 43 or N-Judah also.

hint: bus line

I think I asked this in the last thread on this incident:

[retorical]

If the guy who caused all this comotion is "not all there mentally" why is he driving a bus or train?
