Fugazi's Bassist Done Got His Gear Stolen

Pitchfork has a rich article Fugazi's Joe Lally having thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from his touring van while it was parked on Valencia Street. Overnight.

Fugazi's Joe Lally and Philly's Capillary Action were enjoying a nice stop over in San Francisco following a shared gig on their current tour when tragedy struck. November 16, between the hours of 3-10 a.m. on the corner of Valencia Street and Clinton Park, someone broke into their shared tour van and grabbed a few things without asking permission first. And they were:

- Roland KC350 Amp with bent corner
- Yamaha S03 Keyboard with cracked side
- Alesis QS7 Keyboard
- Sharp VLNZ50U MiniDV Recorder with 3" Color LCD Screen (you'll find footage from a November 15 show in Palo Alto inside)
- Samsonite brown suitcase

Look, people, if you absolutely must steal, don't take the broken gear of a notoriously generous dude.

Where to begin, where to begin. First, getting your stuff stolen sucks, period. If any of you have any information on the whereabouts of Lally's cracked and bent musical equipment, contact his tour mates Capillary Action at this address. Second, "if you absolutely must steal, don't take the broken gear of a notoriously generous dude?" How was the hamburglar supposed to know that this was the equipment of a dude of generosity? Things like this happen to good people no matter the purity of their souls. (Come close, we want to let you in on a little secret: straight white guys who happen to have leftist politics are unusually shocked when they discover that they, too, are not untouchable. Just like their brethren over on the right. Shhh, don't tell them we said that.) But we hear what you're saying.

Again, if you have any info on Joe Lally's stuff, contact these guys.

bummer. isn't one of the realities of urban living that you never leave anything of value in the car?

King Khan (from King Khan / BBQ Show) also had his guitar stolen this weekend.

After seeing tons of "so and so got their gear/merch/van stolen", why don't any of these bands learn?

TAKE YOUR STUFF INSIDE THE PLACE WHERE YOU ARE STAYING.

Yes, I know you're drunk and it's heavy..but do you want to continue to own it? Thieves are well aware that vans + a bunch of dudes = expensive gear.

Leave the big heavy shit. Take your guitars, pedals, amps, merch, and most of the drum stuff.
(or pay someone to sleep in your van with it)

"Straight white guys who happen to have leftist politics are unusually shocked when they discover that they, too, are not untouchable. Just like their brethren over on the right."

Got a secret right back for you: many of their brethren on the right used to have leftist politics when they were younger, right up until sometime around that very moment of discovery.

One of the realties of urban living in the US, yes.

I live up the street and some dirt bag climbed into my window and stole a friends laptop. The City is full of dirtbags as has been for decades

bummer. too bad the people he was staying with didn't let him know that break ins happen on this street on a daily basis.

Dear Mister Blogger,

What a lame comment. What does this have to do with a band having their gear stolen. Do you have something against Joe or Fugazi? Or are you just a prick?

I seriously can't believe that you would post something so dumb. I'm seriously embarrassed for you. I for the life of me cannot figure out what must've been going through your head when you wrote this.

Please elaborate. I would love to hear more of your incredibly insightful comments on what white liberal males think.

Hey Nickpo, are you sure you meant to type "sfist.com" instead of "sfgate.com"? Relax! We're nice people here.

Yeah but don't Fugazi suck balls? Isn't this justice? Hopefully he'll take this as a sign and give up being a musician. Oh, and he's stupid for encouraging crime by leaving stuff in a van. Why are we supposed to be sympathetic? He's an idiot. We should all laugh. Rich, white hippy has stuff stolen 'cos he's a fool. Boo fucking hoo.

Dear sarahell or whatever your name is:

Nasty asshole vitriol. Let's see. I don't like Fugazi, I think their music is boring and forgettable. I couldn't be bothered to actually put some thought into a negative comment about them, because, well, what's the point. However I think 'Fugazi suck balls' perfectly summed up my feelings about their talents or lack of same. Now, I understand that you're a little sensitive to criticism of something you like, but that's the world isn't it? So before this descends into a high school argument I leave you with this thought, no I won't, I can't be bothered.
