I feel secure knowing that we have such zany drivers operating 5 ton buses. Don't union rules allow drivers to be able to punch- out someone who pisses them off, up to ten times a year?

We have an update from our security guy (and remember, these are his words, not mine and is not edited in any sort of way): "OK basically on Sunday the 11th, the fare inspector trainee contacted the muni driver. muni driver on his way to work, had full muni drivers uniform on under large black coat, so - it was not obvious it was a muni employee. the muni driver, is apparently a little crazy and this is not his first time with authority figures. the driver went off, yelling and threatening the POP inspectors - scaring the trainee (female). the veteran POP inspectors step in and the driver continued with his rants and pushed the veteran POP inspectors (both males). anyway, the POP guys held the driver until PD arrived and cited him out for battery on a transit employee in the course of their duties and for not having his proof of payment. while waiting for the police, other track workers got involved - apparently knowing the driver and his craziness, wanting the POP guys to let him (driver) go and get this handled "internally." the POP guys did the right thing. but - wow."

One got me and I told him I was just going to fuck off because he wasn't allowed to detain me. He then followed me to work, walking two feet behind telling me I was going to get arrested. The security guard wouldn't let him in the building because he had no ID. I finally found my transfer when I was in the elevator. He wasn't lurking outside at lunch time.

It's illegal for fare inspectors to detain people??? That's tragic. I think they should be armed. Heavily.

All MTA employees get to ride for free, provided they have their employee badges with them. Question for the Muni Security Guy, isn't it illegal for the fare inspectors to detain a person? If so, are there any exemptions, for example an assault on the fare inspector or other Muni personnel?
