Can't We All Just Get Along?
From our Muni Security Guy-
"On Sunday, November 11 at about 3pm, two of our fare inspectors were assaulted by a MUNI driver in the subway. YEP, it doesn't get any better than this.
The short: Two "veteran" fare inspectors had a trainee with them, showing the trainee the ropes. The trainee encountered difficulty with the muni driver, off duty, who was in the subway and causing problems. One of the veteran fare inspectors stepped in to cool the situation down or attempt to and whala, the muni driver goes off and starts shoving the fare inspectors.
The inspectors took the muni driver down and held him until police arrived. The track personnel (muni too), came around, realized who the driver was and was trying to get the inspectors to back off and let the person go and get it handled internally. The inspectors did not back off and had the driver arrested.
Just another great day at muni."
And hey, have any questions for our Muni Security Guy or our Muni Driver? Well, send them along to Jon@sfist.com and we'll get your questions answered!

Bravo for the inspectors.
"Handle it internally," my ass.
Unions & "loyalty" being what they are, there's no doubt the drivers will get along even better with inspectors going forward.
What's with "whala"?!! Please Jon -- tell us you know it's "Voila"! Or just use English.
Sacre Bleu!
that is sweet! i wonder how much in fares he stole over the years? if he works the n-judah line, it might explain the brand new mercedes i see those fucks rolling in all the time.
huh? Isn't whala the sheek way to say it?
ZING!
AND ...
CHOW!
All MTA employees get to ride for free, provided they have their employee badges with them.
Question for the Muni Security Guy, isn't it illegal for the fare inspectors to detain a person? If so, are there any exemptions, for example an assault on the fare inspector or other Muni personnel?
It's illegal for fare inspectors to detain people??? That's tragic. I think they should be armed. Heavily.
One got me and I told him I was just going to fuck off because he wasn't allowed to detain me. He then followed me to work, walking two feet behind telling me I was going to get arrested. The security guard wouldn't let him in the building because he had no ID. I finally found my transfer when I was in the elevator. He wasn't lurking outside at lunch time.
The real question here is...
Can they turn this into one of those "A Day in the Life of a MUNI Employee" art posters?
Sounds like they needed an assistant, like the 15 year old ass-capper from the Metreon.
We have an update from our security guy (and remember, these are his words, not mine and is not edited in any sort of way): "OK
basically on Sunday the 11th, the fare inspector trainee contacted the muni driver. muni driver on his way to work, had full muni drivers uniform on under large black coat, so - it was not obvious it was a muni employee.
the muni driver, is apparently a little crazy and this is not his first time with authority figures. the driver went off, yelling and threatening the POP inspectors - scaring the trainee (female). the veteran POP inspectors step in and the driver continued with his rants and pushed the veteran POP inspectors (both males).
anyway, the POP guys held the driver until PD arrived and cited him out for battery on a transit employee in the course of their duties and for not having his proof of payment.
while waiting for the police, other track workers got involved - apparently knowing the driver and his craziness, wanting the POP guys to let him (driver) go and get this handled "internally." the POP guys did the right thing.
but - wow."
I feel secure knowing that we have such zany drivers operating 5 ton buses.
Don't union rules allow drivers to be able to punch- out someone who pisses them off, up to ten times a year?
Wow. It's a good thing the public doesn't have to depend on this guy for their safety. No wait.
My guess is he works the 38 line. But I'd believe the 43 or N-Judah also.
