Although almost every single one of you have fantasized about doing it at some point -- especially on 24th Street, where for some inexplicable reason people ooze down the street like lava -- you rarely act upon it. A group of vile teens, however, did. It seems that the reason for last Sunday's brazen shooting death inside the Metreon was over an argument about walking too slow down an escalator. Really.
The 15-year-old mental case that murdered Michael Price Jr., according to the Chronicle, "opened fire after he got into an argument over the victim's having not traveled fast enough down an escalator, investigators said Monday." Price was shot three times as he was trying to flee the group of teens.
This is the second shooting-related death to happen within the Metreon's, um, energy field.

This is getting out of hand. My wife and I were there the day before to watch the nightmare before xmas in 3d and having not been there for a couple of years (no more hyperbowling and drinks? wah!). She was talking about going back to see another movie in 3d but that is definitely off the table. I dont need to get shot by some degenerate teenage nutjob going down the escalator.

I understand that the 15 year old kid originally just wanted to "torture" the fella who was moving too slowly on the escalator. But, in the absence of "water" or a "board" with which to "waterboard" the slow walker, the young lad was forced to go to plan #2, which was the popping of the cap in the ass.

Considering how angry people get about the stand-right walk-left issue over at DCist. I'm surprised this hasn't happened around these parts. There is an awfully angry group of escalator etiquette enforces out there. I expect will see this trend in DC before January.
Are they getting this from rap videos or something? I've been bodychecked by 15 year old gangsta kids in the metreon - staring straight ahead, not acknowledging the existence of anyone around them.
Maybe they just have to keep moving so their pants don't fall down.
I'm fascinated by this because the shooter must know that he was going to get caught, doing it in front of everyone at a mall-like complex. It's like...some strange form of suicide, or something.
Just try standing in the left on an escalator in the London Underground. Hell hath no fury, etc. OTOH it's a great way to pick up some local cuss words.
Fortunately, it's a *serious* offense in the UK to shoot someone for walking too slow on an escalator Or to even carry a gun. Imagine that!

Try to go to the Metreon only on weekend mornings before Noon - the movies are only $6 and the roving idiots are still in bed (or at least not bunched up at the Metreon).
But seriously ... I blame our society's lack of good schools and appropriate upbringing for kids' acting like their lives and the other lives are so worthless that they can shoot one another over frivality.
I hope this doesn't inspire calls for handgun bans. Folks with criminal intent could care less about the laws - handgun bans would only make San Franciscans more susceptible to thugs from within and outside of the City to come here and rob us, beat us, and kill us. From my point of view, I want the thugs to think that I am packing a 9mm Glock in a shoulder holster - even though I don't ever want to actually feel so unsafe that I DO start carrying a handgun. On that tangent, I hope to see something on forthcoming ballots to allow sane adults to take a gun safety class and to get a permit from the County of San Francisco to carry a concealed weapon. Again, I don't want to actually carry a gun - but I want thugs to have the notion that I do so that they may actually think twice before pulling out a gun in a public place and shooting innocent strangers for whatever whack reasoning in their heads.
Whatever happened to the middle finger? Is this not good enough anymore?

Counterpoint: This kid's gun was probably either a) legally owned by a family member and "borrowed" or b) stolen from a legal owner and sold to the kid for $30 and a handjob. Either way, the chances are good that it at sometime was a legal gun. No legal gun in the first place equals no recreational gangbanger with a firearm. In places with strict gun control the only people with firearms are the cops and the more serious criminals. This is safer because proper crims are only ever tooled up when they're on the job, not when they're out at the cinema. And they actually know how to shoot and they generally only shoot the competition. So less guns equals less gun violence, more bar fights, but less shooting. Seen it, lived it.

This is actually kind of scary as the Metreon is my de facto "kill time" spot while waiting for friends downtown.
I think I'll just take the stairs while I'm there from now on.

Let me get this straight. You dream of a place where everyone has guns so people are more wary of pulling one out. This shooting proves the absolute fallacy of that argument. This kid would not have cared if everyone around him was packing. In fact he probably thought the other kid had a gun, yet pulled his metal penis out anyway. He didn't care that there were cameras and witnesses, he didn't care that there were innocent bystanders. He didn't care that he was throwing away his entire life and totally fucking his family and friends. He cared about one thing, having the last word. He cared about this one thing because he is 15 and has no fucking brain. The world is full of these people. Having a concealed weapon permit will not protect you.
Concealed weapons permits for everyone will just mean that more people will attempt to pull their own gun to protect themselves and then get shot when they normally wouldn't, because now the mugger/assailant is the one who doesn't want to get fucking killed.

just a quick point of clarification on my radical views about welfare. i don't think it's out of line or unreasonable to ask someone to sign a contract when they apply for welfare/disability saying, if i get someone else or if i get pregnant, i lose my benefits for a period of no less than 3 years.
that would hopefully make them all think twice about having unprotected sex while we pay them to sit around the house and watch oprah.
i don't think this should apply to unemployment, since you have to be employable to earn that.
