Ageng 510, you are from the suburbs are you not? You are NOT from the east coast. Did you ever ride on the bombed out subway trains to NYC when fully half of manhattan was a nogo zone for the weak? Can we talk about Philly? DC? Atlanta? If this was any of the above cities at times in the 70s and 80s, people like suckafree would be raging at the powers that be for more cops because he would have been mugged about 4 times this year. But one thing that happened was more cops and a better economy, both coincided with Clinton. But as the economy starts to slide... be careful on Divis.

If anyone remembers the 90's, here's Jade's review of the Metreon on Arstechnica back during the web days, which, in retrospect, were the complex's peak. Actual quote: "Did he think they were going to put a cap in his ass right in the middle of Metreon?" Eerie.

Agreed, agent510. And the Westfield's theater is miles above the Metreon's, comfort-wise. I think that's the key difference. I love modern, but the Metreon is just so cold, confusing, and rife with ugly teenagers. The Westfield is an oddly comfortable and pleasant theater for being inside of a mall.

Can anyone name another major city that has let such a high-profile downtown entertainment venue go to seed? Sometimes I'm just ashamed for the city of SF. On the positive side, at least we have the new Century theater in the Westfield, filling the void as the Metreon circles the drain.

Too bad they didn't video the brain-splats when they occured. They'd look great on the IMAX screen, and they could sell them as violent video games in the Metreon game store. They would help keep the pace of the shootings up.

American Gangsters? I definitely try to avoid the Metreon in the evenings - there are just too many stupid people who go there in the evenings for there not to be the occasional mindless incident.

we need metal detectors on bart, like the one in total recall, with the govenator, where you walk right through and they see any weapons without slowing the rest of us down.
