Teen Shot to Death Inside Metreon Megaplex
"I'll pop a cap in your ass," four cowardly teens whined just minutes before 18-year-old Michael Price, Jr. of Oakland was shot inside the Metreon last night after some sort of argument. He later died at San Francisco General Hospital at around 7:30 p.m. A 15-year-old tyke was arrested a few minutes later in connection with Price's murder.
Investigators do not believe the incident was gang related, adding that "it was just one of those encounters." You know, the kind where you're murdered. Ugh, awful.
Also, nice to hear that SFPD took some time out out the their busy schedule of protecting visiting Oracle-ers nearby by helping out with a murdered teen. Larry Ellison will not be pleased.

we need metal detectors on bart, like the one in total recall, with the govenator, where you walk right through and they see any weapons without slowing the rest of us down.
didn't the police shoot someone inside the Metreon a few years ago, with a crazy crossfire?
yes, they did. here it is:

looks like the place is stuck with a bad rep.
that's right! i almost forgot about that.
the place has the worst feng shui and, if i may say, energy. i swear. they should just hollow the thing out and turn it into a nightclub.
so that's the second guy shot to death at the metreon this year...and third person killed there since it opened.
The Metreon just hasn't been a success since it opened. This looks like the death knell.
American Gangsters?
I definitely try to avoid the Metreon in the evenings - there are just too many stupid people who go there in the evenings for there not to be the occasional mindless incident.
Too bad they didn't video the brain-splats when they occured.
They'd look great on the IMAX screen, and they could sell them as violent video games in the Metreon game store. They would help keep the pace of the shootings up.
I'm sitting in the Metreon right now...

Oracle World is CRAZY. I do not miss SF this time of the year...
The guy shot by police there in 2001 was a mental case waving a knife:

I think this was in the news a few months ago - the city lost or settled the wrongful death suit and now there's a charitable foundation to help future knife-wielding crazies speak truth to power:

Metreon is definately built over the Hellmouth
Christ, a 15 year old SHOT someone? I'll have to ease up on my own kid for his lack of homework diligence. I could apparently have it a lot worse.
The Metreon has a curse! Once thriving when they opened, now has fewer businesses, and now home to shooting deaths.
Can anyone name another major city that has let such a high-profile downtown entertainment venue go to seed? Sometimes I'm just ashamed for the city of SF.
On the positive side, at least we have the new Century theater in the Westfield, filling the void as the Metreon circles the drain.
It's all those violent videogames they sell, obviously. They corrupt all the poor innocent children there through osmosis.
Agreed, agent510.
And the Westfield's theater is miles above the Metreon's, comfort-wise. I think that's the key difference. I love modern, but the Metreon is just so cold, confusing, and rife with ugly teenagers. The Westfield is an oddly comfortable and pleasant theater for being inside of a mall.
If anyone remembers the 90's, here's Jade's review of the Metreon on Arstechnica back during the web days, which, in retrospect, were the complex's peak.

Eerie.
Ageng 510, you are from the suburbs are you not? You are NOT from the east coast. Did you ever ride on the bombed out subway trains to NYC when fully half of manhattan was a nogo zone for the weak? Can we talk about Philly? DC? Atlanta? If this was any of the above cities at times in the 70s and 80s, people like suckafree would be raging at the powers that be for more cops because he would have been mugged about 4 times this year. But one thing that happened was more cops and a better economy, both coincided with Clinton. But as the economy starts to slide...
be careful on Divis.
