Palo Alto Teen Rapist Was Just Cranky, Okay?

Todd David Burpee, the man who kidnapped and raped a Palo Alto teen last week, just busted out a heavy confession detailing the hour-plus moments he spent with his victim. It seems that this was all because he was upset and "just [wanted] someone to take out his frustration on after a fight with his girlfriend," reports the San Jose Mercury News. They go on to say that "angry after a fight with his girlfriend, Burpee told police he wanted to hurt someone and zeroed in on a girl he saw returning to an apartment complex in his former Palo Alto neighborhood." Burpee then goes into graphic detail about the assault.
His pathetic girlfriend -- whom he had been with at the time of his arrest on Thursday, driving to get fast food, and who also knew about the attack -- attended the court hearing in support of her totally misunderstood rapist boyfriend. (Seeing as how she was complicit in the attack, failing to turn him in to authorities, wouldn't she also be prosecuted?)
Burpee is now in the clink without bail, scheduled return to court December 12.

Complicit (sorry, pet peeve :P )
fixed. thx.
np.
One wonders what the fight with the GF was about. Anger management issues much?
i don't know. but i'm guessing that their fight was one of many, many fights that overly-dramatic couples enjoy having.
From the Merc News:
In his confession, according to court documents, Burpee told police he and his girlfriend had been fighting over the loss of his job.
Phew, looks like society was spared from further damage, he could have been a cop or a Marine.
Anyone want to place any bets as to whether the defense counsel or the perp will play the race card during the trial?
he failed the iq test to become a marine after graduating from palo alto high. supposedly he date raped another girl during high school but nobody believed her. this is really messed up. how did he get into palo alto high if he lives in san jose? his little brother nate is still there. the football coach says todd was nothing special on the field and didn't play much either.
If he failed the test, he must be a sub-moron since they have questions like "who is the commander in chief", "what country is just north of South Korea?" [I imagine]
Is shock therapy still legal? He's nuts.
The ASVAB is for testing which vocational field a recruit should go into by testing your knowledge in English, Math, and vocational skills like automotive repair. I wasn't even aware it was possible to fail it. Here are some sample questions from the ASVAB test.
that's great stuff cycle. thanks for finding it. i bet that 75% of america couldn't pass that test. sad but true.
"honey.. I was really angry with you, so I kidnapped and brutally raped a young girl.. p.s.. she's in my back seat, and she might be dead...................... oh wait, now she's gone! Huh. I guess she's alive so everything is ok. Let's go get some food"
he doesn't deserve any vaseline in prison.
the girlfriend deserves some time there as well for not calling the cops.
.. so glad it takes forever to get through to 911 from a cell phone....... whoops! call failed. oh well.
75% of Americans couldn't name 4 Justices on the Supreme Court, or even know how many there are.
What kind of chances does a poor kid have after they get "rapist" as their future occupation on one of those tests?
I took one of those things a few years ago and got "poultry technician" as one of my options, and I've been stuck working as an IT manager ever since.
BTW - It's a dirty little secret that calling 911 will get you placed on hold for a while if you call from a cell phone. And when your call goes through you'll be connected to the CHP in Vallejo, and get transferred again to your local agency. The situation is improving, but slowly.
Everyone in the Bay Area should have a variety of 10-digit emergency numbers in their cell phone (not on speed dial!) so you can call directly. For example, I have BART Ops, SFPD, SF Fire, Alameda Co Sheriff, etc, programmed into my phone.
Holy crap, suckafree -- how do you know so much about everything?
*impressed*
i got that from palo alto online a few days ago. this story was lighting up their comments board. talk about six degrees, i was at my local safeway yesterday morning and the girl bagging groceries said she used to live with burbee.
scary!
