That Was Muni's Guide to the Weekend that Was

Sorry we're so late with this feature this week. Our tardiness involves a sordid tale of broken 2Wire gateways and AT&T not being terribly helpful. But anyway: on with the show! What was on Muni's mind this weekend? Halloween, of course: the annual top-secret "real" celebration in the Castro the weekend before the now-canceled event. Did you go? Was it a blast? Were the streets packed with people? Good thing Muni was prepared.

Also in the news: a 2nd Street closure on Saturday, and a Giants game on Sunday. Also a march for world peace, which was a huge success and now the world is at peace and war is over, the end. Full list of events appears after the jump. Enjoy yourselves, "fun seekers"!

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) advises San Francisco residents and visitors of the following event-related traffic and transit impacts this weekend, Saturday, October 27—Sunday, October 28, 2007. Event participants and fun seekers should check with www.sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 80 Muni lines will get them where they want to go.

2nd Street Closure

On Saturday, October 27, 2nd Street will be closed for Caltrans work between Bryant and Harrison from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Muni will re-route the 10-Townsend route to accommodate the closure.

Anti-War Demonstration

On Saturday, October 27, an anti-war demonstration will be held at Civic Center and Dolores Park. A rally will start at 11:00 a.m. at Civic Center Plaza. The march will leave Civic Center at 12:30 p.m., head west on Grove Street, south on Van Ness Avenue to Markets Street. On Market Street the march will proceed west to Dolores Street and then south to the park.

Motorists will be detoured around the march and streets will be opened as soon as possible after the march has passed.

The following Muni rail lines and bus routes will be affected or re-routed:

· F-Market

· 6-Parnassus

· 21-Hayes

· 22-Fillmore

· 26-Valencia

· 33-Stanyan

· 47-Van Ness

· 49-Mission/Van Ness

March for World Peace

On Saturday, October 27, a peace march will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The march will begin from UN Plaza, proceed west on Fulton to Larkin, north to Golden Gate Avenue, and back down Polk to Civic Center Plaza.

SFPD Officers will be on hand, monitoring pedestrian and vehicle traffic, to determine if closures are necessary.

Pre-Halloween Festivities

On the night of Saturday, October 27, Pre-Halloween festivities may impact the following Muni lines and routes: F-Market, 24-Divisadero (including Owl service) and 35-Eureka.

49ers Football Game

The 49ers will host a home game on Sunday, October 28 against the New Orleans Saints at 1:15 p.m. at Monster Park. Drivers should expect delays on city streets near the park and US 101 before and after the game.

For service to and from the game, customers can take the new K/T-Third Line to the Gilman/Paul station and transfer to the Football Shuttle. The Football Shuttle is free for T-Third customers who simply show a transfer.

Have no idea how well Muni did last night (I did notice an actual 22 Fillmore around 2) but the cab situation was the usual muck-up. When there's like twenty people at one corner, all looking for a cab, and some cab driver without anyone in the cab refuses to pick anybody up, there's something not quite right.

Waah?

ITYMTS "49ers" game on Sunday.

I saw four 71 buses go by in the space of about 3 minutes (all inbound). Bunched up as usual on a Saturday night. When the streets have even the slightest bit of traffic, Muni falls apart. Saturday seemed only slightly worse than normal out here on the west side. That is, Muni service was unacceptable, but not likely to improve in our lifetimes. Just suck it up, and pray that you don't have to be anywhere on time.

Sometimes a cab comes by with nobody it and refuses to pick anyone up because there's a frustrated person at home or at a bar or an office somewhere who called for a cab over an hour ago and hasn't yet been picked up, because the three cabs that were coming to pick that person up stopped for random folks on the corner before they got to the pickup.

Teh muni service is soooo unreliable that even the news about it from a "reliable" source (i.e., cameraphone boy) is too late to be useful.

To prove how much I hate the muni, I'm gonna drive my car more, park in the bus zones, ride my bike full speed through crowded sidewalks, then I'm going to move to yurp. That will teach thems good.

MM, don't worry brah, of course it wasn't your fault that the news was posted late. It was the union's... Well actually before that it was the fault of the incompetent bureaucrats that run the system. We all know it is Muni's fault that y'all's writing is so unacceptable.

It is too bad that we don't have a nextsfistpost to see when the bloggy blog will be updated. Until then we'll keep rereading the weaklies.
