SFist Photo: Google vs. Microsoft -- Free 411 Service

Google's 411 service is now out of beta. Hurray! Billboards for the phone service now appear in upstate New York and our little town in upstate California.

Read all about it here. Read about the "annoyance" a 100% free service can create here. And here's the 411 on GOOG-411. Of course some calls are "recorded for quality." What's that mean? Mmmmm.

Whatever. Take your chances and try them out. Which is better, 800 GOOG 411 or Mr. Softy's 800 CALL 411? We're hard-pressed to pick a winner in this latest battle between GOOG and MSFT. What do you think?

it's the first video in the player.

GOOG-411 works well, but they sometimes their voice recognition system may not get things exactly right. Example, if you ask for Costco in South City, they only give you one phone number to some place I don't know where. If you say "Costco Wholesale" in South City, you get several options.
