Pete Stark Apologizes to Bush
We sure are remorseful these days. First, Archbishop George Niederauer offered his mea culpa to the Catholic Church for giving Communion to the Sisters. Now Stark is getting in on it.
After House Democrats rescued him from censure today, Fremont Democratic Representative Pete Stark then apologized to members of the House and President Bush for his recent remark about "'soldiers getting their heads blown up...for the President's amusement." (Watch his pointed rant in its entirety here.)
According to the Chronicle, Stark said, "On a very serious note, I want to apologize to my colleagues, many of whom I have offended, to the president, his family, to the troops," going on to say, "I apologize for this reason: I think we have serious issues before us, the issue of providing medical care to children, the issue about what we're going to do about a war that we're divided about how to end."
Bush then sent him bed at an early hour, with neither dinner nor dessert.

Pete Stark let me down. Somebody needed to say it. And then he backs down? I'm disgusted. I thought finally we had a Dem with a backbone. I should have known better.
Remember what happened to Dick Durbin in 2005? Same shit. These Democrats have a moment of backbone and say the right thing, which drives the right-wing noise machine insane. And so after that pressure, they have to apologize. When was the last time George Bush apologized for anything? I could certainly think of a few statements over the years that would merit repentance.
I agree. The hyperbole is nothing compared to the atrocity of the war itself.
STARK RAVING MAD
Since when are we apologizing for our opinions?
I think gay marriage should be legalized- oops, sorry evangelicals, you're powerful and scary, so I take back my opinion.
I agree with the above commentators- this is rather disappointing.
I think Stark sounded like a 10-year-old when he said it, and sounded doubly stoopid to apologize for it.
