Who has time to buy all that stuff? I think I'd be pretty good at looting so I'll take my chances.

That was a LONG time ago, but I still remember exactly WHAT I was doing....

Thanks for the reminder - I need a 72 hour kit.

wow...... took my mother eight hours to get home from downtown SF to Daly City......... her muni train stalled between Forest Hill and Castro.... she had to walk/hike from Forest Hill to Daly City BART.... no cellphone back in those days, just pagers......... I was waiting for her at Stonestown in the parking lot where the old Petrini's (at least I think it was Petrini's) used to be........ the parking lot was doing the wave just like out at Ocean Beach, the movie theater sign swinging so violently back and forth that I thought it was gonna drop directly on my car...........

I had pulled out my old keepsake box yesterday & this morning the SF Chonicle I had bought the day after the quake caught my eye. Didn't even realize today was the anniversary.

 "EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA
HUNDREDS DEAD IN HUGE QUAKE"

My husband worked in the East Bay, said it was a long ride back to the city on his motorcycle. But at least all the traffic was stalled, once he got over the GG it got a lot scarier on the road. He pointed out that it may take him a day or more to get home if a quake happens while he's at work. Good thing I can walk to my kids schools in 2o minutes in an emergency.

Now where the heck do you store all your emergency stuff? In the garage that'll collapse?

This is a good time to remind folks to take advantage of the SF Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) training because, trust me, if you think City services are already stretched to the brink on a day-to-day basis, just how in the world will they be able to help every resident in the City on the day of the next disaster?

Visit http://www.sfgov.org/site/sfnert_index.asp and pick a training date today!

6. Make sure you have cat food because kitty don't care about no emergency.

(Back in 1989, after we determined that our home was okay the first thing on the agenda, after the mood enhancers anyway, was to go stand in line at the blacked out Uganda liquors to buy cat food)

Earthquake Safety Tips:

1. Do not scream or wet during the event.

2. Stop intercourse immediately. It's better to be clothed while buildings collapse around you.

3. Remember, pets can be a valuable source of protein.

4. Have sufficient supplies of "Dolls" and valium, and high quality vodka on hand.
Be sure to have them in multiple locked locations in the event of looting.

5. Phones will not work and no one will be able to help you for weeks. The city may totally burn down. Refer to #4 often
