BLŪ

blu1.jpg

Eastern SOMA's budding, unfortunately named condo "community" BLŪ, on Folsom and Second Streets, is about ready to bloom in all of its steel and glass glory. Problem is, we don't see any lottery for affordable housing on their site. Has the lottery already happened? Or are they planning on having some sort of learning annex or UC Berkeley extension, a la The Paramount, to skirt those types? We can't seem to get anyone over at BLŪ on the phone to fill us in.

More BLŪ after the jump.

OK, what the hell is the deal with the window-free building next to BLŪ? We have nightmares about this complex.

Handel Architects' rendering of the completed building that's too good for you.

The name sounds like a fun coke bar, not an elite condo complex.

I think the name sounds like a cologne. Too bad it isn't just called 501 Folsom (or whatever the address is).

I just know I look forward to folks populating these new high-rise condos sooner rather than later ... so that more shops and restaurants open around them sooner rather than later.

And I was thinking a heavy metal band, but the umlaut would have to be above the "B" or "L".

To me, it sounds like a club. Will the residents have to stand in line and pay a cover charge every time they come home? Or not even be able to come home at all unless they're dressed right?

The building looks like a row apartment like you'd see in the Moscow outskirts where the factory workers live.

I'll bet the whole thing pancakes flat in a good earthquake. If you buy, insist on the top floor units.

I love that it is flanked by two of the uglier/drearier buildings in the neighborhood.

Although, the windowless PacblSBATT building is kinda creepy cool in a way.

do people work in the "PacblSBATT building" or what? i never see people come in or out. it scares me so.
