I think that the Four Seasons or the St. Regis would be the safest and most pleasant places to shoot up. Seeing as how four- or five-star hotels are typically the best "public" restrooms in the downtown area to use in such emergencies, intravenous drug use should be a breeze.

Once upon a time, my office was a safe shooting room.

My bosses turned a blind eye...I worked for an agency that serves homeless people.

No one can recover if they are dead.

If I stopped one less Hep C, or HIV infection, then I saved at least one life. I probably saved more.

People really trusted me, and the myth free information I provided to them re: recovery.

No one in my agency has ever gotten the number of successful treatment outcomes then I did.

Many "Junkies" have become tax paying, job holding citizens.

When I proved that I really cared, many of my participants started to believe in caring for themselves!
It's better than having people shoot up in alleys, public bathrooms, or between cars.

Once again we turn to "the Wire"-- Hamsterdam. If it's good enough for Bunny Colvin, it's good enough for me.

p.s. this business of actually enforcing the law? It's just as proven as the harm reduction stuff. Look at NYC.

OK, sangfroid, let's make a deal.

Let's open one of these centers somewhere in SF. Your hood sounds as good as any, because there are so many addicts.

And ... AT THE SAME TIME ... let's fucking enforce the laws. No littering. No crapping. No harassment of passers by. And if you get the ticket, you have to PAY IT, like we working stiffs do when we park too long or forget our Muni fare, not get it cancelled by some judge who thinks it's nice to let some people get off scot free because they're "unable to pay."

No fucking excuses.

Methadone, implants, induced-coma cold turkey, anything but this. Maybe they should put one in every office, next to the "nursing room". Who the f**k has the key to the nursing room BTW? It's 6 o'clock and my mams are fit to bursting.

Malcove, I would welcome this next door to where I live.

1) There's a syringe exchange across the street from me. 2) And there's a Walden House next to that.

I live at 15th & freaking Capp. I walk over needles every day. I bow to no one on my concern over this issue, not even residents of the Loin. It's precisely because I live in such a addict-dense zone that I'm in favor of this proposal.

These programs have worked well in Europe. People can NIMBY-bitch all they want, but the statistics favor these kinds of interventions. And until people are willing to look at the data on solutions to inner-city drug addiction, I'd wish they'd shut up and let health professionals discuss proven solutions without resorting to cries of knee-jerk liberalism.

This is a fucking terrible idea. Every bleeding heart always wants to volunteer at the free monthly needle exchange ... in someone else's neighborhood. They don't stick around to clean up the shit and vomit on the local doorsteps next morning.

If anyone wants this "safe space" let them have it in their own house.

Brock, I see a wonderful way to implement GREEN POWER in San Francisco and the possibility to reduce the Carbon Footprint of several of our most endearing and typically SF types of fellow Citizens.

Put Stationary Bicycles in these Dose Houses! Ridden by Heroin Addicts, Crackheads, Tweakers powering small generators like Gerbils that will free SF from PG&E tyranny once and for all.

Everytime the pedometer hits 10 miles, a little door at eye level opens up and you know what comes out: the Good Stuff!

We would soon be Off the Grid and on the cover of Utne!

We could set up an intravenous system so they can stay in the saddle until the big gong goes off announcing another 1000 miler doper getting their full ounce. They wouldn't need to get up to use the toilet because many seem to have resolved that time waster already.

As a bonus we would save a ton of newsprint otherwise wasted on the subject by the Bay Guardian.
