The tenor part is really really tough to sing, of course the bari is as well. I think the tenor actually had a cold; he did much better on Wednesday than he did on Thursday. He was nursing his water, he was very uncomfortable during his high notes even though you could HEAR that he HAS them. Very heroic sound (when you could hear it over his cold) that I think fit the Mahler perfectly. On the other hand, I'm not positive I like Hampson. He did really weird things with his vowels; making them dipthongs when they weren't.
