Miller gave in because it was made clear to them that the overwhelming number of Americans who are Christian will not stand for this. The continued miscalculated actions of the immoral minority is awakening a sleeping giant. Outside of their lovely city, San Franciscans are the laughing stock of the county. Just keep it up and the good people of the city will rise up and take control. This has always happened in similar situations throughout history.

Well in that it directly references the last supper it definitely bears a relationship to a painting depicting a seder. But that doesn't make it offensive to Christianity. See, the painting is just one artist's imaging on scene that is heavily imbued w/ metaphor (Judas wispering and Thomas doubting and so forth). The bible nor the pope (for the catholic commentor) never mentioned the painting, and so referencing a reference of an event can hardly be construed as being anti christian. At best it is anti-representation of stories that are depicted in the bible. And only anti if you think that Jesus was against leather, S&M, and meat on sticks, pierced everything and teh gays.

This isn't about christians, gays, or fisting; it's about ignorant American philistines too dull to understand that homages to The Last Supper are a time-honored tradition.

Here's a link if you're just too dumb to use Google:

http://images.google.com/images?q=%22the+last+supper%22+homage

You're welcome, pinheads. Yes, even at the fair.

Where were all these boring, knee-jerk christian types when the Summer of Love poster of the Last Supper with Jerry, Janis, and all those other types was everywhere earlier this year? Get with it people! You could have have baited 100k septuagenarian hippies!

for me a non Christan but a local who was raised Catholic and am somewhat moderate in my politics (think west side) intent seems to be everything in these matters and it seems to me the intent is disrespectful of the local catholic community just as I find the sister of perpetual indulgence to be. They both intend to offend

It's fine to parse and dodge and submit that this is in fact a parody of art, Leonardo might be homosexual or whatever, Blah blah, we all can see what is going on. Its clumsy and it is anti -Catholic as I doubt the creators are all that clever

Most of you distain conservative white locals and religion anyway. Many gays have a negative impulse towards Catholicism (maybe rightfully so) so just be honest

As parodies go, it is pretty tame. I almost don't get the connection to the painting. The Jesus pose is similar, but no one is relating to anyone else in the image in quite the same way. It certainly doesn't have any of the life of the original. It's really more of a suggestion of the painting rather than an open mocking of it (or tribute to it, which is how I would look at it -- hey, it's pro-Christian!).

So Miller asked the organizers to take their logos off the ads, but they didn't ask for their money back or do anything else to actually stop sponsorship... and the Jesus junkies are crowing about this as a victory?

Goodness gracious, indeed.

From the CNS article:

"[President of the anti-gay Americans for Truth] LaBarbera agreed. "What's worse even than this open and blatant anti-Christian bigotry is the fact that the city of San Francisco blocks off several city blocks for a festival that celebrates perverted, sadistic sex," the ATF president said. "I've actually attended this event as a critical observer," he said.

And what did LaBarbera wear to Folsom St. Fair?
