One day we're planning a going-away party there, and then -- ta-da! -- it's gone. Wired workers' favorite watering hole and one of the last dive's around the Eastern SOMA area, the Eagle Drift-In Lounge was a good place for cheap booze, comfy booth seating, playing a game of darts, or to catch our favorite pregnant smoking bartender making a drink, waiting for that call from CPS.
We walked by it yesterday and the doors were open, so we snapped this photo of the space's renovation. Does anyone know what it's going to become? We asked one of the workers and were told right-quick to "get rid of the camera and leave, please." (In all fairness, we'd be curt, too, if we had to do manual labor on a Sunday afternoon.)

When it closed several months ago (had to get that in there, sorry) the Utah/Eagle regulars said plans were for it to become an "upscale sports bar."
"upscale sports bar."
is that even at all possible? huh. anyway, thanks for the tip.
"upscale sports bar" is in fact a redundant term, not the impossible concept Mr Keeling depicts it as.
I want photos of the pregnant smoking bartender!!!
she was a sweet gal, DJT. she just seemed to lack a good grasp on the concept of cause and effect.
I know, hence the scare quotes. It's a fairly predictable SOMA development idea, though. The old-timer locals were quite upset.
Let's just hope the Utah doesn't feel it has to succomb to the same pressures ...
Upscale sports bar? So basically, a mini Jillians?
I wonder if that means it'll have 2am shootings and a silly dress code, too?
Well compared to Zeke's... upscale sports bar does seem possible.
The more bars the better, but I am honestly trying to think why I wouldn't just keep walking towards Hotel Utah.
i heard it was going to be a "steak lounge." No idea what that means.
I don't think you have a good grasp on cause and effect.
