Oh No Ed Jew!: Newsom's Intervention
"Enough is enough," Newsom said to reporters this morning. "He needs to do the right thing and step aside."
Interesting words there, Gavin. Irony aside, the Mayor renewed his call for disgraced supervisor Ed Jew to step down today, making the statement mere steps from Jew's flower shop, according to today's Chronicle. This comes on the heels of the rookie supervisor refusing to remove himself from the position; pleading not guilty; having the nerve to ask for (and receive) a delayed trail, which will now start over a month from now; and having the Feds charge him with mail fraud.
Newsom is expected to meet with Jew today where they will no doubt discuss the latter's resignation, talk about perennials, or hug it out.

To mayor, STOP pushing ED JEW's good services over the borderline!! NO ONE I know get mails at home because of nosy relatives! ED was just trying to get money for children playground!!! What's wrong with that?!?!

Post #1 is as good an argument as anyone could make for keeping guest postings. No one would have enough nerve to post that under their own names.
As for Gavin's waffling/dallying/shilly-shallying, it makes one wonder if he is capable of making any decision that might offend an idiot like poster #1.

Gavin has his own cypher waiting to take Jew's seat, but even a yes-man can wait only so long.
Newsom is following Ammiano's call for Jew to go. Ammiano has been tough on Jew because he employed the "co-conspirator #1" as did Leland Yee, so it's natural for Ammiano to seek distance from this. "Co-conspirator #1" 's employment with Leland Yee and Ammiano were some of the connections he was trading on with the Quickly folks that conveniently bypassed the formula retail ordinance.
Newsom needs Jew to go quietly. Reading the complaint it was his own Planning Department that may have cooperated with Supervisor Jew, and the mail fraud charge Jew is tagged with is from the NOV Planning mailed out. For his own political future Newsom can't be seen as an enabler of shakedowns.
All in all, an ugly chapter in City politics. Makes you think twice about extending the power of conditional use authority at the board of supervisors?
Top priority is street crime. How many people will be killed before Newsom takes action to clean out the city's gangs.
Opera's and Symphonys appearances with D list actress's ( trying to get noticed) do not a mayor make.
Jew will leave in good time.
