He Will Win, But He Wants To Win By More

Even though he runs without any serious opponent, Newsom's camp is still pulling their hair out over this election and the turnout. Newsom'07 Phone Bank sent us a release, with the following:

We want to turn out as many voters as possible on election day, so that Mayor Newsom can continue to make government more responsive, effective and accountable. But, we need your help. There are only 47 days left until San Franciscans go to the polls. And we are trying to reach every voter in the city.

Why are they pushing the Gav so hard on us? One guess is that he'll win, but with a tiny turnout, which his opponents could then use against him in the future. (Not that they could use it to much effect, but then again his opponents are crazy.)

Because they want the illusion of a huge public mandate.

Did you see his campaign headquarters on Market St? By the size of the banner, you'd think he was running against Gonzales again.

well, well..... every comment I read here & SFGate is not-so-positive for the Fraud Prince....I think they're very scared: he's not getting endorsements from alot of groups, etc.
Wouldn't it be sweet ironic justice if he barely won??
DON'T VOTE FOR HIM, folks - he's done nothing

He probably wants to be Governor. Not such a bad thing for the city to have a motivated candidate.

This year I'm voting for Krusty the Clown because, dammit, I like my clown's funny

The more votes he gets the more Leverage he has with the Stupidvisors

Newsom headquarters is on Sutter at Van Ness, not Market.

Wrong. It's on the corner of Market and all of our hearts.

They want turnout because of the ballot measures is my guess.

If Gavin doesn't kick Ed Jew off the Board of Supervisors in one big hurry, then I'm going to vote for the other clown.

but which one? the possibilities are endless.

Maybe their nervous because Gavin keeps choking on getting endorsements from moderate groups like the Sunset Dems, the Chinese American Dems, the Young Dems, and the city government managers' union.

And the whole myth that the other candidates for Mayor are all crazy and wacky is getting tired:
- Quintin Mecke runs a public safety program and is a member of the Shelter Monitoring Committee.
- Lonne Holmes has decades of experience in San Francisco juvenile probation.
- Ahimsa Porter-Sumchai was an emergency room doctor.
- Chicken John is crazy, I'll give you that. But he's got some interesting ideas, and over 300 San Franciscans think he's serious enough to give their money to his campaign.

It's cool that Brock has a crush on Gavin (and Alex Smith), but I liked the days when SFist was a little more fair and balanced in its political coverage.

DOH! all that work into making pretty links and I get my "they're"s and "their"s mixed up. It must be time to shut down the computer the weekend.

What a polite way of calling me a dumb faggot, Jeremy_not SFist. Not all of my kind worship at the Gav's alter because of his stance on gay marriage, possible inch-size. Do take the sweeping generalizations and covert homophobia to fcj where it belongs. (Oh,wait...)

Also, you assume I care about politics.

If they weren't crazy, then they wouldn't be running.

I don't know to take that I wasn't on the crazy list as a good thing or someone just doesn't know me to well. I bet it's the last.

He'll win but a lot of us are giving a very reluctant vote. His character over the past year has been embarassing. I hope he decides to grow up. Not hanging out at establishments like "The Balboa" would be a start.

Turnout will make the difference on a few key propositions, most notably this really terrible one (no on H, the extreme downtown parking increases) that sounds good on the surface but not once you realize what it does. For details:

Many people do not want an adulterer as Mayor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife is a commandment you know. Not a good leader when you cheat and lie to a best friend , so that could jeopardize peoples faith in him.
