We Read The Weeklies

1399412_43.jpgLast week's winner, the SF Weekly. Hey, someone spilled alcohol on our issue! Or at least we hope it's only alcohol.... We're now only gingerly turning the pages. Please don't be pee. Letters: Someone hates Chris Daly. You can't talk to MUNI head Nat Ford when he's in the john? (Cartoon at left.) Cover article: The Treasure Island Music Fest is gonna be awesome!!!!!!! (We have got to remember to pick up tickets for it soon.) $85 to eat in the dark this Friday? (No link to the actual entry on the site.) Wow, everyone seems to love this BioShock game. Liveblogging (in a manner of speaking) Fringe Fest. Meredith eats downtown. But oh no!! SFist Ced says if she keeps up the good columns, he's going to retire Mercredi, c'est Ravioli! Noooo!!! The Donnas are back again, as are the New Pornographers. And the Bouncer's thoughts on autism.

Next up, a completely not soaked with alcohol East Bay Express: Hey, we just picked our issue up with the classifieds side up and you can go to LA on a Price Is Right bus tour for $125! ($16 off if you mention the ad.) Come on down! The tofu-based logic of this week's Dream Cartoon cannot be refuted. Calling the guy whose number is 510-RAIDERS. He's been getting drunk dials for over 10 years. Why so much arson in Oakland? Cover article: shady mortgage brokers selling houses without telling the owners in Berkeley. Exciting neighborhood spat (complete with stencil graffiti) ensues. Hey, Judy Blume's coming to Alameda this Monday! There's a new wine bar in Oakland. Fiddling in Berkeley, and hey! The Treasure Island Music Fest (we must remember to buy tickets to that).

After the jump: the San Jose Metro and the Bay Guardian, the Weekly of the Week, and the tally for the year.

The San Jose Metro: They don't think they're actually going to finish the BART extension to San Jose. San Jose State's Puff Daddy, and sewage backups at the Hilton. Annalee Newitz's thoughts on Voyager. Hey, the Treasure Island Music Fest! What sounds like a great South Asian place in Santa Clara. Cooking classes. And how rich people live.

And the Bay Guardian: Tim Redmond is resigned to Gavin Newsom winning. Sasha from Left in SF has an editorial for municipal wi-fi! Hi Sasha! Steven Jones returns from Burning Man to talk about Burning Man with Chicken John. What's going on with Newsom asking for everyone's resignations? The guy who just started last month to fill a spot that's been open for a year is a little annoyed. SFPD still can't solve homicides. Reusing water. Turmoil over volunteers at the Alameda animal shelter. They're screening The Warriors at the Red Vic this week. We admire Sonic Reducer's bumpy segue from Britney Spears to the Animal Collective very much! Only a small article about the Treasure Island Music Fest? That wine bar at Valencia and 19th. Cover article: LE Leone's favorites (includes Papalote). Also, LE admits she's not really reviewing a restaurant in this week's column (no link).

Weekly of the Week: Oh, we're having a tough time deciding this week. On the one hand, it's very nice to have Steven T. Jones back (now, where'd he go last week? Was it dusty there?), not the least for his very nice compliment to us on the SFBG blog! Thanks, Steven! On the other, thank goodness for the SF Weekly reminding us about the Treasure Island Music Fest! We totally forgot we really wanted to go to that! So the Treasure Island Music Fest cover just slightly beats out the Guardian (mostly because we think we've lived in SF long enough now that we feel slightly gypped that we know almost all of the cheap eats places LE Leone picked). Two weeks in a row, SF Weekly -- nice job!

YTD count: SF Weekly: 12; SFBG: 10; EBX: 8; Metro: 6.
