Brandi Carlile Plays the Fillmore

Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile came through town over the weekend to entertain a sold out house at the Fillmore. A little bit country/folky, a little bit rock and roll - something for both Fogheads and Alicians. The reviewer from the San Jose Merc News was blown away, comparing Brandi to Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt and Mary Chapin Carpenter. She's already moved on to other cities on VH1's 'You Oughta Know' Tour along with up-and-coming A Fine Frenzy (whom we didn't get a chance to see). It was a great performance.

Harrington's review paints an accurate picture. I was very impressed by the maturity of this young artist. In terms of venue size, the Fillmore -- at 1200 people -- is the upper limit that I can really enjoy.
She will probably play bigger venues in the future when she returns to the Bay Area, so I am grateful that I had a chance to see her headline at the historic Fillmore (she claimed that it has been a dream since about age sixteen).
Somewhere in the universe, Bill Graham is applauding.
