SFist Blotter

Bad series of news items for the SFPD -- the rookie cop who accidentally shot himself at a party earlier this month when trying to demonstrate tips on gun safety was legally drunk (just barely), and that cop, Jesse Serna, who keeps (allegedly) beating up people like Barry Bonds' trainer and Willie Brown's friends in North Beach just got the city sued again, this time for beating up a doctor starting his residency at Harvard (whose case was previously profiled by the Chron.)

kwilletsblotter.jpgOmmmmmmmm-igosh! A lady accidentally set her Sausalito house on fire while meditating. Well, she had lit all the candles to meditate, then left the house, and came back and the living room was on fire.

And HEY!!! You know we love the LOLCAT hilarity of perennial commenter-of-the-week KWillets, right? Well, he's on ABC 7!!! As you guys may know, KWillets has been running a camera outside his house to monitor criminal activities in the housing project across the street. Well, last night, the camera caught a guy mugging a woman (a tourist). KWillets turned in the footage and the SFPD (gasp!) made an arrest. Yay!!! We love it when SFist readers get in the news!!!! Plus: KWillets is a hero. Watch the clip here.

It's KWillets!!!! We're so proud!!!!

Way to go!

OK, before this gets out of hand, I don't think I was the sole cause of this arrest the way the story put it. For one thing, I was so busy shouting at the idiot and making fun of him for mugging someone in front of the cameras (I was hoping to scare him off) that I didn't make it to the phone until he was out of sight.

Somebody else must have called 911 sooner, because the cops caught him only two blocks away.

The victim also did almost everything right -- she looked around and saw him coming, shouted loudly, fought off the tackle, and made it into the middle of the street where people could see her. The guy just couldn't keep her down, and he ended up running away with her chasing him.

I think the niners might want to draft her.

you are the man kendall! if you need money to defend yourself or property from these animals and their soon to be aclu backed onslaught that might head your way, say the word. i will help you with anything you need.

The craziest part is the quote from the public housing guy: "we have not, at least not to my knowledge, heard anything from the residents of that site that they would want cameras there."

Oh okay. The fact that private citizens are putting up cameras of their own isn't maybe an indication that they would in fact like cameras there? Or maybe it's just because they've seen how useless the city's surveillance system is, so residents are just saying, "eh, don't even bother; I'll do it myself."

worse yet it just shows the some of these criminals are smart enough to realize they need to move around the corner from the existing cameras the city put in. we should have closed circuit cameras everywhere around any project type housing to protect the residents that don't sling crack for a living.

"we have not, at least not to my knowledge, heard anything from the criminals of that site that they would want cameras there."

That poor mugger's civil rights were violated! He should sue! Let's march on the jail and demand his release!

Hey Kendall - care to share details on your setup? I've been pondering the same thing on Potrero Hill, and am curious what you're using and how its working out (or how you would change it if you had to spend the same money again).

Hot damn hes handsome.
And he's my neighbor too
