Bad Night In SF
Maybe it was the heat. There were four serious attacks in SF last night, one of which were fatal. Here's the time line, from CBS 5/Bay City News.
--around 9:20 p.m.: shooting at Taylor and Market in the Loin. One victim hit in the arm.
--around 10:00 p.m.: shots fired in Sunnydale (can Dede Wilsey help with that?). Victim found with four gunshot wounds, one in each arm and two in the chest. Injuries considered non-life-threatening.
--around 11:00 p.m.: shots fired in the Bayview. Victim found with a gunshot wound in the back. Injury considered non-life-threatening; and
--around 2 a.m.: homicide victim found at UN Plaza (the Civic Center station) near McAllister, one block away from the Hastings Law School. Victim died of multiple stabbing wounds.
Update: And this afternoon, they discovered two dead bodies in a house in Ingleside. Witnesses reported hearing a scream late last night, but thinking nothing of it. One of the owners of the house was seen talking to the police and later leaving with the investigators.

So when is Gavin going to sign his own recall petition?
as soon as daly signs his
;)
Daly never said he would if the homicide rate went up under his watch.
i predict things are only going to get worse around here. this is from the december edition of the sfpd police officers association newsletter:
…Juvenile Crime:
Not much news coverage about juvenile crime, but you can expect that to change soon since Juvenile Hall is running at 180% of capacity. The more vexing problem is how to deal with those 12 and under violent criminals. Should there be a facility to house them? Do we return them to parents who cannot control them?
How do we protect the public from a 10 year old who likes to knock down little old ladies or the 8 and 10 year olds that walk into the sand box area of the park and brandish a butcher knife telling a mother with toddler that she better give them money or they’ll cut them?
I just heard there was a shooting this morning on Fulton at Fillmore--anyone? anything?
From what I understand, pretty much everyone who works in the Mayor's crime office is a former criminal defense or prisoners rights advocate of some kind. Not that these can't be nice people, but if we're expecting them to crack down on crime in any way I think we're probably in for a letdown.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Project Homeless Connect took place in the Civic Center on Wednesday. A lot of people converge on the area just for this event -- people who are usually spread out across the city and the Bay Area.
Also: HEEEAT!!
guest [5],
There was a shooting on Webster and Golden Gate this morning, right behind Ella Hill Hutch, so that's probably what you heard about. I heard the kid was shot in the head, and then run over by the car the attackers were driving.
There was a shooting around fulton and steiner. Apparently, supervisor (superman?) ross was in the neighborhood (that's his neighborhood, I believe) and chased or caught one of the shooters.
Sad. But, y'know, if you had said "there were 4 vicious attacks in the city and I'll give you one guess where they occured," I bet we all would have gotten at least 3 out of 4 right.
shit that's pretty messed up...I wonder when the news is going to pick up on it?
Hmmm, 2 more people, a couple, were found slain in their Ingleside home today. So 3, possibly 4 homicides in half a day...
Well, well, ANOTHER man was shot 3 times at Fulton and Steiner, at 9:40 am today. He has non-life threatening injuries...

6 people shot, at least 1 of them killed, and 2 more found dead.
And apparently, Mister Mirkarimi was out for a jog when that last shooting happened, and helped officers apprehend the suspect!

I wonder why there has been no mention of the shooting on Webster. I was down there this a.m., and people on Fillmore were talking about it. Said it happened at 9:00 a.m. If that's true, then is sounds like the one at Steiner and Fulton was related, probably a retaliation.
What??? They're 10 years old. Seriously, punch them in the face and take *their* money instead. An 80 year old grandmother has a longer reach than these kids, machete or not.
