For what it's worth Ross is my sup, married some of my best friends (it was the first wedding he conducted as a public official, how cool is that?) and, I wrote him awhile ago telling him I wish he would run for mayor. He wrote me back a thoughtful response laying out all the reasons why he's not--it's already too late in the game, it would take attention away from his district, to name just a few. I'm sure he's gotten more than a few letters like mine because he had the answers down pat and I'm sure it was a form letter of some sort (with some personal touches, I'd like to think). I think if enough of us keep bugging him we'll get rid of do-little Newsom and eventually get Ross to run. Next time? I mean, here's a guy people are *asking* to be mayor. How cool is that?

Let's be real here. One of the reasons there IS so much crime is Mirkarimi's constant support for pot clubs and disinterest in cleaning up streets or going after low-level crime. He votes with Daly and Ammiano on nearly EVERY crime measure (except cameras), and has supported Muhammed X or whatever terrorists run Bayview now. He didn't run for mayor because he's a coward, and if he runs in 2011 he'll get his ass handed to him by someone like Herrera, who works for gang injunctions. Mirky was against those, I believe. All flash and little substance. Just like Newsom. Some race that would have been.

I would say something incredibly fangirlish (perhaps a "ohmyGAWDi'mgonnagoTOUCHMYSELFNOW") but Rita, you really nailed this one (no pun intended?). As much as I support my supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, I should point out that the first crime mentioned here, "the robbery," actually qualifies more as a "burglary" legally. Robbery involves personal contact (i.e. "stick 'em up."). This was a guy lifting a backpack from a car. That said, I'm proud Ross Mirkarimi is my supe, and not just because he keeps saving lives and busting up crimes. L.L.

He was first in his class at the police academy. He is a good guy and he's willing to get involved. He's not like too many politicos in this town who talk all big and stuff and are wimps. And he's not on some freakin' playa acting like an idiot and taking drugs. WHY OH WHY can't this guy be mayor instead of Mayor Drinkypoo.

Good Job Sup....Now maybe youll see that you need cops in cars that can patrol and get to places quickly. There are TOO many police assigned to footbeats. They are needed but you cant shortchange the districts with too many mandatory beats. You also shouldnt be telling cops to sit on one corner 24/7. thats a waste the shootings will just move around the corner.

Mirkirimi has proved himself time and time again during times of chaos and crisis. Gavin Getty-Newsom is really good for tourism and attracting glamour and money, but if SF ever faced difficulties I have the feeling he'd be on the Getty 727 faster than you could say "I left my heart in San Francisco".....

Way to go Ross, actions speak louder than words and you have proven that you are one man who truly cares about people and about this city. Lesson to learn gavin, stay clean and sober and off gettys carpet and you too can aspire to do a good deed (good deeds do not include having sex with your drunk/high secretary or walking swells through the projects)
