Gavin Continues His March To Victory: Tony Hall's Out

tonyhallquits.jpgYou think Gavin means it when he tells Ken Garcia that it's kind of freaking him out that no one's running against him? Well, there's one more down: ABC 7's Dan Noyes has the scoop that Tony Hall has dropped out of the race too.

Hall was the one unambiguously-serious mayoral candidate running against Gavin Newsom (and by "unambiguously-serious" we mean was a wedding singer but does not have an animal in his name and wears clothes, of course) -- but says it was an uphill battle getting campaign contributions since everyone is so sure Gavin's going to win anyways. Well, it might have helped if Tony had ever managed to get his website up beyond "under construction" too.

Anyhow, Hall's out, with the following line: "Maybe what’s better for the city is another dose of this cat and their spin machine." Gavin Newsom's a cat! Dan Noyes has Tony Hall on for an exclusive interview tonight at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, is everyone decided that the anti-Newsom protest vote goes to Quintin Mecke now? Not the nudist? And does no one else beside us want to write in Joanna Newsom for mayor?

My protest vote will go first to H. Brown because I'd feel sorry for him if he doesn't get a single first place vote. For second, got to go with candidate best known for a record jail term. Third choice is Chicken John as he'll have the best election night party.

Protest vote? Just don't vote for a Mayoral candidate if you want to protest. Don't do some sorta Ralph Nader punt - don't encourage the entertainers seeking promotion and attention with votes for God's sake. The few candidates who do seem to want to be taken seriously may learn enough to start campaigning earlier and to actually build up a contingency to support a campaign before August of the election year - GOd bless regular folks getting involved and running for office (though Cindy Sheehan is testing my support of such things).

too bad, I was looking for a real electoral dust-up this time around.
"Smackdown '08 - the Boozer versus the Loser - and this time it's personal!"

I hear Tony Hall is under investigation by the ethics commission for misuse of funds during his last campaign. Could this be connected to his sudden withdrawal from the Mayor's race?

homeless smelly poop for president!

bambi lake for mayor. oh, come on!

I'm with RinconHillSF on this one.

That SNL sketch where Nancy Pelosi says the new Agriculture Secretary is "This Naked Hippie" = funny. But if a bunch of SFans actually vote "This Naked Hippie" for Mayor = not so funny.

That does not make a statement that SFans are frustrated with Newsom. It would make a statement that SFans have lost their damn fool minds, should be laughed at instead of taken seriously, need to avoid voting while intoxicated, etc.

It would also encourage Newsom. Chew on that...

It's a Too Chicken Race. May the Burning Man win!

With nothing but static to the Left of the radio dial, I would have hoped Tony Hall would have stuck around awhile to push for cleaner, safer sidewalks.

Gavin Sucks.com Endorses Newsom!

Campers,

Come watch the remaining candidates debate every friday 5-6:30pm under Gavin's balcony. Thanks for the poster who said they'd vote for me as a protest. I'm much more than that.

h. brown

Ah, candidate Brown, as good as his word.

Leaves in a huff, never again to participate, but not afraid to use SFist as a marketing tool (albeit signing in as a "guest").

Yeah, he's a really smart guy, and writes a hell of an entertaining column, but I'd prefer to have a mayor not so obsessed with outing people's "secret identities" . . . and not so prone to getting them wrong.

Better Joanna Newsom than Chloe Newsom for mayor.
