Muni Alert: Get Out of Town, and Stay Out

wait.jpg
You know how the Bay Bridge is going to be closed on this Labor Day weekend? And how that means there'll be fewer car-trips into San Francisco? A reasonable person might assume that that'll mean an increased demand for public transit -- but Muni's response to that is, "reasonable people? What on Earth are those?"

Not only is Muni not adjusting service levels to accommodate the bridge closure, they're actually reducing service levels on one of the days. On Monday, Sept 3rd, a bunch of lines will be suspended altogether; and every single remaining line will be operating on a reduced schedule. Of course, this info hasn't gone out to the press; you'd only know about it if you subscribe to Muni's RSS feed. You do subscribe, don't you?

Of course, they're doing this so that they don't have to pay overtime on Labor Day, which is very much in keeping with the spirit on that particular holiday. Good thinking, Muni! Another jorb well done!

Here's a list of Monday's canceled lines: 1AX, 1BX, 4, 7, 9AX, 9BX, 9X, 10, 14L, 14X, 28L, 31AX, 31BX, 38AX, 38BX, 38L, 41, 80X, 81X, 82X, 88.

Um...

Muni sucks and all but...

most of these are commuter lines serving the financial district. Muni runs a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, hence these are not run.

It would be nice however if they ran more trunk line service such as 7 and 38L.

+1, ths r xprss lns fr bsnss wk cmmutrs. Trds.

Thanks for your constructive contribution.

Running a bunch of empty commuter buses when everyone in the financial district is taking the day off would be pretty pointless.

Jesus Christ, you people get a day off and all you want to do is sit around at home?

s mttymtt dtd my pst t ppr gnrnt. fckng dch bg.

What else is there to do on Labor Day besides grill on the deck and get drunk? Who needs to go anywhere?

just make sure we can get to the Ramp on the T line, to the bars in the Sunset, and to the bars elsewhere, and the downtown lines can suck it.

Wheeeeeeeeee!

We generally give registered commenters more latitude than anonymous ones to leave the occasional boring comment. So, do with that information what you will.

Yes, mattymatt, some of us do want to sit at home on Labor Day. Why would we want to spend a well deserved day off on a stinky MUNI bus?

BTW, does anyone know what the f@ck is going on at Van Ness station during the day? The smells eminating around the entrance are horrid. I gag nearly every time I walk past.

comment #1 pretty much nailed it, and besides, there will in all likelihood be much, much less activity in the City which is also why my server friends aren't working their usual shifts...
not rocket science but you would have to know that labor day is one of the busiest driving days of the year, and that most of those people would not be heading into the shitty.

That's weird, Greg's mom doesn't live anywhere near Van Ness station.

consensus: this post blows, and so does its author!

consensus: this post blows.

Please try to stabilize your consensus, cunts.

If you want interesting comments, perhaps you shouldn't make pointless posts like this one - or at least know what you're talking about well enough to know that running a bunch of commuter lines on Labor Day would mean MUNI wasting money on overtime to run empty busses.

Suddenly the reader and commenter demographics are converging.

Oh look, there's someone providing a bit of writing that I happen to find pointless or ill-informed. I could always just ignore it and go look for something better, but instead I believe I shall pile on with vague, dull-edged attacks. He'll have to withstand it - it's his job! Unpaid, of course.

There, now I've done my good deed for the day.

You tell 'em, Matt! Why not replace "guest" with "idiot." No one will know the difference.

dude, don't worry I'm sure that most still love your snarky cameraphoniness. I'm sorry that the guests have got your panties in a wad, but for the love of NPF, what sort of idiot thinks that the closing of the bay bridge should result in increased Muni service. It is a fricking holiday... They have holiday schedules. Jeebus! How come you are not pitching a fit about the banks being closed?

You should also be thanking your lucky stars that the Muni website has incorporated fancy newsfeeds for you and the other transit haters. Instead you are bitching about decreased services. I think that you need to post more youtubes on bus bunching. Maybe that will make you feel better?

You even used the c-word... I don't know what to say. Pull yourself together man! I suggest that you to take a holiday in olde yurp - where they take trannysit and local gossipy bloggies more seriously. Until you get it together, please try not to sully the interpipes with your garbage mouth.

Hey Matty, if it's any consolation, I read your post and was not in the least offended, angry, or inclined to spout profanity. Cheers.

Is there a new commenting policy wherein one should only remark upon postings that they wish lavish praise on lest the original poster reply w/ vague, dull-edged attacks on his/her own? I guess when David Cross is insulted it's cool, when it happens to you, not so cool. Glass stones...

Oh noes!! The bridge and tunnel trash that carouse drunkenly through my neighborhood all weekend long will have to stay home.

F**k, that IS a pity. Think I'll stay at home this weekend myself.

"Is there a new commenting policy wherein one should only remark upon postings that they wish lavish praise"

Please point to some evidence of lavish praise, fair guest commenter.

MistahHM, do you never get out of town, or what? BART is running limited all-night service to make sure people can still get to and from the East Bay... but then what? If someone comes from Oakland and wants to get to Geary & 25th, it'll take them an hour and half on the non-limited, reduced schedule 38. Just think about it for a second.

So why would someone from Oakland want to go to Geary and 25th on Labor Day...?

Hookers.

Don't you know that the 25th and Geary hookers have Labor Day off? Do your research next time!
