SFist Banned

Surely, over the last few days, you've noticed a new and profound deficit in SFist's coverage: we have been abruptly banned from the press list of NextArts, due to the inflammatory article we wrote last week.
Of course, we'd never publish the specific wording of a private email exchange. So let's just say that some guy at NextArts contacted us to let us know that there was more to the story than we had published. We wrote back that the comments were an ideal venue for such elaboration. They wrote back that our post was in error, which was true -- we'd confused one artsy event thing for another, probably because NextArts had started sending out emails on the other org's behalf. So we straightened that out with an update on the post, and that's when things turned frosty.
Anyway, Tony asked us to correct the post that was already correct, we replied that we were satisfied with the current state of things, and then Tony asked for a list of "all addresses for sfist people on our press list," explaining that SFist was no longer allowed to be on their press list.

I have heard from two friends that there is a person associated with nextarts (not sure his name is Tony, but that might be right) who has a rep for going completely nutso on people and threatening them. expect many phone calls and emails and "i will tell gavin newsom and ross mirgarimi that you suck and they will come get you" and "i am going to ruin you" comments.
they're not fun. "seek help" would be an on-point response, but the guy in question apparently doesnt listen very well.
beware.
Why, that's freaking funny!

They sound like a bunch of... a******s
I am posting a comment of support in this time of SFist's inconsolable grief and distress at receiving this news.
One must have to be one of the "hipsters" with the on purpose slick greasy unwashed looking hair like those Laughing Squid talks about to know or care about what any of this means...
take it to the blogwarbot
According to guidestar.org, nextarts' Executive Director is named Anthony Imperial. According to the organization's tax returns, he does not get paid for his work for the organization. However, nextarts' tax returns have more errors than those of the Black Rock Arts Foundation.
Tony Imperial is crazy crazy crazy. He has alienated a dozen political groups all over town, writing bizarre quasi-threatening misspelled screeds if clubs don't vote his way or have him speak. And these are both lefty and mod groups.
Seriously, if you've been banned by him, it shows you're on the right track. Well done.
Tony? Total nut. He goes all used-car-salesman like to get people/groups to do something with him and they never do again. We have a failed mental health system and it shows.
I would suggest everyone in the City not make the mistake that so many others have learned from.
We need free concerts in the parks, but Tony's style and record are counterproductive.
If SFist wanted to do some serious reporting, interview everyone who has ever worked with him and ask them why they never did again.
I interviewed once for a position at nextarts. It was so shady! First of all, Tony showed up about a half hour late. Second of all, the interview was a complete joke. It was totally unprofessional and overall left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not surprised to hear about this, and relieved that I trusted my intuition and didn't pursue that particular position.
hmmmmmm... We have the arts group finchmob.com (who got paid in full) that won't be invited back because of drug use, someone who didn't get a job w/ us and by the way our books were audited by Cooley Godward, so they are just fine.
You should post the email thread if you are going to claim bogus things. But alas, thenyou couldn't.. I guess that's why it's so bogus..?
Text of email exchange below (typos included for authenticity). sfist is banned because you do not act responsibly w/ your content.
Please give me all addresses for sfist people on our press list
Hi..
I have pulled everyone off the press list that had an sfist.com email address, but am not quite sure about you for example. I did not see your email address on the list.
Sfist may be on our announcement list, but it can not be on our press list. Will you honor that and tell me your email address so I can remove it..?
Not need to get into an argument about it, I’m sure you understand. NextArts no longer has comment for sfist, public or private.
Best,
Tony

Those comments are from a totally separate post. That said and duly noted, we are asking you to correct it. We will not supply further public comment or insight w/o that.

You may need to hit the refresh button on your browser to see the update, which is in the middle of the post. And as always, the comments are a great place to supply further insight. We're satisfied that this particular issue is resolved.
Take care,

Hi..
I just checked the post: http://sfist.com/2007/08/19/hippies_fail_to.php
This post has no update and it refers back to some posts the finchmob put up
about NextArts months ago.
Are you doing this on purpose? Cross matching apples (old news article)with oranges (a recent new article). This feels odd. Please explain.
Thanks..

Hi Tony,
I've clarified the post; it's now ready and waiting for further comments.

The post is in error. NextArts didn't cancel the concert. We simply forwarded the email that went out on the cancellation. Please correct that in your reporting.
As far as background on the story.. If you don't want to know it, then that's cool.. But, I must respectfully ask you to fix the article which
says we cancelled any event. We have not done so..
Thanks for understanding how this misprint could result in major damages to our org..
Best,
Tony

Hi Tony,
I don't know if additional background on the story is notable enough to warrant a second post, but the comments in the original entry would be a
great place to continue the conversation:

Hi Matt..
This is Tony at NextArts. We didn't pull the plug or cancel the concert scheduled for Aug 19. All we did was forward the emails sent out
notifying folks it had been cancelled.
There is an explanation, however.. Or, at least I have one. Call me sometime and we can talk about it before we post anything.
Best,
Tony

What a gem of an email string. Thanks SFist. I think this issue is resolved.
