Hit and Runs in the Castro, Embarcadero

Update:
Yikes.
According to Bay City News, a fatal hit-and-run in the Castro took the life of a "45- to 50-year-old skater" (!?) 60-year-old man 77-year-old Roger Tennyson (or maybe someone else, or Rainbow Brite -- the victim's stats keep changing today) near Duboce Park at around 1:30 a.m. this morning.
This comes on the heels of another hit-and-run incident: a member of the Canadian Navy was fatally stuck at Howard Street and the Embarcadero on Saturday morning by "someone driving a silver or gray Mercedes Benz with front-end and windshield damage."
If you have any tips on either hit-and-run, do call SFPD at 415-553-9516.

just fyi, bay city news just updated the story and it was a 60-year-old getting out of his car, not a 40- to 50-year-old on a skateboard.
Teh Chronic just updated this story and now it's a 77-year-old former AAA inspector. That really puts a lot of confidence in the media when it's originally reported as a 45-year-old skateborder (sic).
This blog really is transportation-obsessed, isn't it?
I don't see anything wrong with a good proportion of SFist's commentary being focused on transportation. Without (or even with) a car, getting around in the Bay Area always feels like a bigger ordeal versus any other major metropolis.
There's been a lot of hit & runs in this town lately. SFist mentioned a hit & run of a newspaper vendor back in May (and I only just now found out the guy eventually died). Nobody caught. So sad.
This blog may be obsessed with transport, but this is a serious matter. No matter what the circumstances, leaving the scene of a fatal accident is at least felony hit and run. The perpetrators (perpetrator?) of these crimes have no defense. And shame on the Chronicle for trying to shift the blame to the victims in the last sentence of the article.
hear hear, the violence inflicted on pedestrians (and bikes) by cars has got to stop.
People are driving excessively fast without any fear of a penalty. Pedestrians are paying the penalty for the fast driving through downtown.
