Summer Of Love Appreciation Society Event
UPDATE: The organization in question is not, in this case, Nextarts. Nextarts wants everyone to know that they didn't organize something that was later canceled. And they didn't cancel something that was previously organized. All that Nextarts did was forward an email to their mailing list. Again, NextArts would like you to know that they didn't actually cancel the event. Someone else did. Please make a note of it!
...the Unofficial Haight Ashbury Summer Of Love Appreciation Society is inviting everybody for an informal unofficial picnic 1967 Human BeIn style. If you feel sympathy bring flowers, food, drink, blankets, acoustic music instruments, costumes, symbols, cymbals, bells, spin toys, drums, hula-hoops, hugs, smiles, laughter ... this is a word of mouth unorganized event, nobody is responsible; there will be no organized facilities, no amplified music, no vending. Help each other, take home all trash, and leave only love and good vibes."

Well then somebody must've stolen the logo, because it's definitely on the canceled event's site.

Golden Gate Park was alive and well yesterday. We wandered in and unexpectedly found the 41st annual celebration of Indian Culture the banner said...as we continued on we stopped to watch the colorful procession and were even handed goodie bags, it was a fun.
Making our way towards the ocean we stopped for the 11th Annual Lindy Hop in the Park event. The sun was out the dancing excellent free classes every Sunday at 12:30- made a note to attend soon.
We didn't make it to the ocean but did stop to listen to the man on the hill playing his bagpipes. Chatted it up with some Italian Tourists, watched the roller skaters take back the skate park and admired the new flowers displayed in the conservatories garden...
All along the park people were out taking in the sun and the community. If you stayed home because of a confusing email, you missed out on a beautiful day in the park. Love happens.lo

I'm dying to know -- what was in the goodie bags? Something tells me it wasn't samples of Calvin Klein's Eternity for Men or pedicure coupons.
I lost my goodie bag! From what I remember it included some food treat that I did not try. A pamphlet or two and a sticker that I kept with a deity printed on it and the word smile :) lo
September 2nd event has not been canceled!
Sounds to me like Anthony Imperial of Next Arts has his knickers in a twist because his more organic home grown Love event has been shanghaied by 2b1records' more corporate event.
NO DOUBT they sought out help from the mayor's office to get Next Art's event off the table so that it would not conflict or confuse the masses. Given the line-up for the festivities 2b1records must have been planning the event for over a year. Could you imagine what would have happened if half of the artists found out that there were two similar events and that there was a possibility that people might not show to the second event. Because certainly that might have happened.
I want to know WHEN did NextArts start planning their event? And isn't possible that the 2b1records' event being more organized and mature received precedence, just on that level. And SO WHAT? there is a proclamation from the mayor's office about the day and that means that 2b1records and the Mayor's office are all chummy chummy. I don't think so. The Mayor's office makes so many proclamations these days they really don't mean anything anymore, just something nice to hang on the wall.
Anthony Imperial has been sparring with the Newsom administration for years now and certainly shouldn't be surprised that he keeps loosing. I completely understand the radically militant nature of many people in San Francisco against the establishment and how passionate people can be about certain issues. Anthony Imperial is radical If he doesn't get his way he quickly cries conspiracy theory.
I don't know what participation Anthony Imperial has with the summeroflovefestival.com web site however i would gather at least some. This site states that the concert on September 2nd has been canceled. It would be so much more kosher if they would post a statement like, "yeah, it's not our event and well maybe these guys have sold out but hey check out the line-up looks like it might be a good time and here is the correct URL."

It would seem the most recent post is either from Boots Houghston or Patti Carlise (Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Office). We would like to dispel some things written here.
We began planning our event in July 2006. In November 2006, Boots Houghston sent out an email harassing Deborah XXXXX for the Summer of Love website (referenced above). Boots then began threatening everyone doing a Summer of Love event.
Our goal is and remains to give D10 their very own Stern Grove. We find it amazing that it would take 40-years to create a venue specifically for artists originating form San Francisco. Here, with the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, we get a chance to do this. 40-years later? It is ironic, to say the least.
We are very proud and happy the older generation continues to get accolades, however, countless newer musicians and artists continue to suffer. We stayed away from the issue (Summer of Love) in public, because we didn’t want to jeopardize the chance to finally create something to help them.
That all changed in June/July 2007 when Ron Frazer (Hope and Beyond ) also planning a Summer of Love concert, gave us emails originating from Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Office with instructions to impede any other Summer of Love concert w/ the exception of September 2, 2007. The Gavin-ator published the proclamation soon after the date stamp on those emails. We popped above the radar when we confronted them about this.
We believe Mayor Newsom was trying to create the only stage for the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, so as to ensure a good platform for a campaign speech. After all it is an election year. A walking orchestrated photo-op, as deep as a bird bath.
More irony, for the first time in Gavin's life he may have given something w/o getting a return becuase he didn't attend the concert. Good! As to sparring w/ the Mayor’s Office; only when we have to. We are pretty busy. But for the record, we win some, we lose some. If we didn’t why would Patti Carlise go through so much trouble to post here?
Gavin Newsom is a politician, that means if he isn’t kissing babies, he’s taking candy from them. He took the most coveted piece of candy anyone could ever have- their heart. Want proof? The guy slept with his best friend’s wife, destroying 3 people’s lives without regard in the process: a man, a woman, and an infant son torn apart forever by Mayor Gavin Christopher Newsom. How could any self-respecting gal want someone after a stunt like that? I’m not even going to get into the whole gay marriage p/r stunt. Think about that for a moment.. That should be proof enough.
Reading all that I have read.. There is not enough love in the world.
Lastly, don’t do drugs when you play our stage!
