I'm sure SFist gets quite a bit of traffic, but I assume FogCityJournal's servers can handle the handful of hits that would result from a link in a comment (not even a front page story). That is so completely disingenuous. What other links have you removed to avoid overwhelming external sites? (And nice passive voice, by the way. Were mistakes made?) And "watch it"? Is that a threat? I'm trying to remain civil over here. I'm counting to 10 and rereading my comments before posting and everything. Are you going to ban me for asking questions about your commenting policy?

Thanks for your clarification. I think I remember the thread your talking about. Was it one of the disturbing threads where anonymous commenters were making vaguely menacing and misogynistic threats to (formerly)SFist_Elaine? To [17]'s question about what was edited, Brock didn't alter the text of my comments, but in this thread he twice deleted my links to the article. It seems like SFist has been giving FCJ the cold shoulder recently. I don't know if it goes back to when SFist fired Elaine or when FCJ contradicted Brock's report that Gavin and Jen Siebel had broken up. But whatever's going on between you two, I'd rather not be caught in the middle of it. Don't be like one of those ex-couples who make their friends choose between them.

I don't understand what exactly was edited from a comment, but I agree with Jeremy_notSFist - the comment policy should clearly state that you reserve the right to edit comments, without any visible evidence that it has occurred. Otherwise there is no way to tell if words have been put in a commentor's mouth, or taken away.

I guess I am confused. I had to do some googling to figure out what pro-FGM and pro-ANA are. I'm not really looking to pick a fight. Last week I said that I thought a dance off was the best way to settle a blog war. I'm just wondering what's going on. Did you edit my comments? Have any other comments on SFist been edited? I see on the gothamist comment policy that you reserve the right to delete comments, but it doesn't say anything about editing comments.

Maybe I didn't include the quotes around the URL in my first comment, although I'm about 97% positive that I did. But my second comment was clearly edited by Brock or someone else at SFist. I pasted the URL straight into the comment below the line "Hmm, I coulda sworn I put a link in that last comment." The URL was hotlinked in my comment when I reread the comments yesterday afternoon, but it was gone today when I looked back again while I was writing the comment above.

I don't think it was censorship; the blog software just doesn't know that url's don't need quotes around them in most situations, especially in html tags. This is irritating because the specification was quite clear about whether quotes are needed, and what distinguishes an url from the surrounding text, and how programs should behave. From RFC 2396: URI consist of a restricted set of characters, primarily chosen to aid transcribability and usability both in computer systems and in non-computer communications. Characters used conventionally as delimiters around URI were excluded. ...(long sex scene deleted)... The angle-bracket "" and double-quote (") characters are excluded because they are often used as the delimiters around URI in text documents and protocol fields. In this case the previewer actually works correctly, while the posting process does not and strips out unquoted url's, even though angle brackets are sufficient to delimit them per the spec.

The public relations tone-deafness of Ed Jew is simply staggering. First there was his hilarious inability to keep his mouth shut to the press about taking the $40K in cash, then there was turning himself in to the Burlingame Police, and now an appearance on the Savage Nation? Are you freaking kidding me??? What's next? A resolution honoring Michael Vick for drowning and hanging under-performing dogs? I appreciated yesterday's debate about free speech vs. hate speech and whether the Supervisors' symbolic resolutions are worthwhile (although I didn't appreciate SFist censoring my links to FogCityJournal. WTF is up with that? You know I love you, SFist, but petty blog war crap like that shakes my faith in you.), and I realize there's a lot of gray area in these debates. But a San Francisco Supervisor appearing on the Michael Savage show? I think that's crossing the line. Most rational adults (even right-wing talk show types) dismiss Savage as nutball, and marginalizing him is probably the best way to deal with him. For an elected official to legitimize Savage's garbage by appearing on his show is outrageous. P.S. At least we got another fun Ed Jew quote out of this. "And I want to basically say that I don’t agree with my wife, and she has her own perspective.” The Ed Jew drinking game: drink every time he says "basically." P.P.S. Savage's website is as pathetic as his URL. http://www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/ really? 2.3 million hits a month and this is the best you can do?
