40 miles per gallon? That thing should get over a hundred.

Smart Cars in Europe are shockingly tiny, so I'm very interested in seeing if the models have had to be redesigned to pass USA safety tests. I also want to find out if two people can pick up and move the car (out of a parking space, for example, so I can make more room for my land yacht).

Bonds bash is Friday, August 24th. Not today, a week from today.

These things are surprisingly crashworthy (for their size).

- They get crappy mileage for the size because the car is still heavy (2000 lb) and the US version had to have a gas engine retrofitted since our diesel fuel isn't ready for prime time. You have to satisfy US lead foots who, even with their eco platitudes, don't want to get caught driving a car with wimpy performance.

- They are ridiculously expensive, at $15K about the same as a bare-bones Honda Civic.

So, for now, it's all stylin'. Plus, you can angle park two of them in a single parallel parking space.
