Chris Daly's Not Running
We imagine Heidi Klum Germanically intoning, "Chrisss Daaly: are you IN, or are you OWT?" Well, folks -- he's out.
The Guardian has the entire text of his statement, but here's the paragraph we found the most intriguing:
Sarah and I arrived at last night's meeting with the intention of announcing my entry into the race and were moved by everyone's willingness to act on faith. When I called on progressives for support for a Mayoral run, progressives responded. But I also sensed that the reservations in the room were real. Progressives are certainly ready to vie for the Mayor's seat, but, unfortunately, I am not the right candidate.
So 1) Chris's wife (whose baby is due a week before the election) was persuaded to agree to his run, and 2) Chris listened to people on both sides of the issue and made a mature and reasoned decision not to run for mayor. Wow, that's not how we would have guessed either of them would have gone!
We must admit we're kind of relieved Daly's not running -- we were getting kind of stressed out just thinking about covering it.

Interesting though, I'm glad to see the progressives wouldn't let 'the Lump' embarass their party any further.
I still don't understand why Aaron Peskin doesn't just run at this point. He'd get the progressive vote, he'd get the environmental vote, he'd get the shorty vote, but he's also generally enough of a level head most times to peel off enough "moderate but fed up with bush league Newsom crap". I mean, the guy does represent Nob Hill/Telegraph Hill/Russian Hill after all - not exactly hotbeds of loony leftism.
I wonder if the Gav will come up with Chicken's $5k. That would show some style and a sense of humor. After all, his campaign has plenty of money to run against itself.
Perhaps Gavin's war chest could go to fund the Community Justice thing - that I totally favor, by the way.
Peskin would also get my vote if he ran, but I think SF still loves Newsom too much, no matter how many friends wives he sleeps with or big businesses he colludes with.

Now that the last Great White Male Hope is out of the ring, maybe the progressively left-out will finally acknowledge that there is strong, smart, long-time behind the scenes activist who is in the race, who also happens to be a very Progressive Black Woman. Her name is Dr. AHIMSA SUMCHAI.
Unless of course you prefer lounge singers, chickens, clowns, the current grease monkey or just sitting home wondering what happened and why.
