Bravery and a Breakfast Sandwich
Tonight at City Hall, three men are being honored for 1) attacking an attacker, 2) chasing said attacker, and 3) coming to the aid of the attacked. Remember in May when a teenage girl was randomly attacked with a knife in a bakery by some loser who got out of San Quentin the day before? Well, that happened in our part of the city, where not much usually happens.
Have you ever heard of Miraloma Park? It’s right next to where we wait until 6pm every week to put out our garbage cans in the Sunnyside. Trust us, it is in the city and people do live south of Noe Valley. (All of you at City College know what we’re talking about. Nice mural, BTW.)
Anyway. We thought we would pander the Bonds-haters of the world by highlighting (and this is only for the haters) some real heroes on this day that we now call “Barry Bonds Day.”
So, here’s to Kermit Kubitz who risked his life to save the life of a total stranger. Here’s to Jonas Svallin who chased a crazed man (who had just critically injured two people with a knife) half a mile, leading to the capture of the stabber. And, here’s to Dr. Sang-ick Chang, who dropped and therefore sacrificed his overpriced groceries from Tower Market (worth it for the meat department alone) to come to the aid of the attacked teenager.
And, last but not least, here’s to Creighton's American Bakery for weathering the storm of this horrible incident and continuing to make the best breakfast sandwiches in the city.
You are all heroes in our book, and we will forever call May 19th “KubSvalCha Day” and celebrate it every year with an egg sandwich.
