they wont let you bring your bike.

LA's increasingly usable transit infrastructure notwithstanding, i'd rather take greyhound or amtrak, and be able to get around once i get to LA.

but maybe thats just me.

I'd say bus-faster-than-rail is the real problem here.

It's hardly less than an hour when you consider getting to the airport, getting screened, waiting for the plane, flying, deplaning, and getting from the airport to wherever you're going.

I think I would still fly and pay up to 40+ times the price of a $1 bus ticket so that I can be prodded by airport security, but be able to get to LA in less than an hour.

Anyone thinking of taking this might want to check out the reviews on Yelp Chicago (most of their current routes originate in Chicago). Mostly positive reviews.

In reference to the 'good Chinatown bus' in CA, not true.

http://www.xedohoang.com/english.html

This is a Vietnamese-owned and operated business that charges between $35-40 (varies on Holidays) one-way from SF\OAK\SJ to LA\EAST LA\OC.

It picks up from (daily):
SF - McDonalds on Van Ness (6:30am)
OAK - Banh Mi Ba Le (1500 International) (6:45am)
SJ - Lee's Sandwiches (2525 King, SJ) (8:30am)

Drops off in Chinatown (LA), El Monte (East LA), and Westminster (OC).

Plus, they provide a free meal of a Vietnamese sandiwch (Lee's) and bottles of water. As an added bonus, they show Vietnamese variety shows (Paris by Night) on the TV monitors during the ride. I've taken it before...way better than Greyhound or Amtrak.
