Gang-Style Killing Of An Oakland Journalist

cbailey82.jpgChauncey Bailey, a local journalist with the Oakland Post [no online site] and who had previously worked at the Oakland Tribune, was shot to death at around 7:30 a.m. this morning in downtown Oakland in what the authorities are characterizing as an assassination-style hit.

Bailey covered African-American issues in his time at the Oakland Tribune, but was fired in 2005 for ethics violations, He had just been named the new editor of the weekly magazine Oakland Post in June.

Bailey was shot first in the back and then in the head by a masked gunman wearing all black at 14th Street and Alice, a few blocks away from the Oakland Post offices.

"Gang-style"? Sounds more like "Putin style."

Same thing.

That's pretty messed up... Gun violence is one thing, but assassination something else entirely.

This is an extremely disturbing murder. When people are openly practicing assassination of prominent journalists, the nation is not far from chaos and warlord rule. I seriously hope the FBI comes down on this case with the full power of their agency.

police should be checking out what he wrote about...
if it caused this style of hit, must be some powerful words....

2/1 this was a hit by the Nation of Islam

Agreed, [1] and [2]. "Gang-Style" seems misleading.
