Oh No, Ed Jew!: We're Back!
We're bummed we were out of town for all the ins and outs of Ed Jew's preliminary hearing -- but thanks to SFist Jer for covering it for us while we were gone! So today's latest? Ed Jew is going to stand trial. That is, Judge Harold Kahn found that the DA had enough evidence for the case to be presented to a jury, Next court date: August 20, presumably to set the trial date.
In other Ed Jew court news, Ed Jew's father worked out a deal where he wouldn't have to testify despite receiving a subpoena from the DA, and Ed's lawyer says "Ed has not yet begun to fight." We shudder to think what this trial's going to be like if he's not fighting now.
And what's with all these other Ed Jew situations coming out of the woodwork? Someone on the Berkeley rent board may actually live in Oakland, and a LA councilmember purporting to rep the gritty Inglewood actually lives in a gated community in hoity-toity Brentwood. Why on earth would you want to represent an area you don't live in? Do you just love reading proposed legislation and sitting through public comment sessions that much?
Picture from ABC 7.

I'm not a stupid person, but I just don't get it. Why doesn't he just say "ya got me", resign, and fade into the woodwork? If he had done so when this started, surely it wouldn't have gone to a trial. How embarrassing must this be for his family?
I really wish my jury duty wasn't for August 6. I would love to sit on that jury, though I think they would kick me off because of my letter to the Chronicle's editor.
Awesome - kind of like Watergate where every scandal gets a "-gate" suffix?
Berkeley's Ed Jew, L.A.'s Ed Jew.
Welcome to TapiocaGate. Don't forget, the "Ed Jew" tapioca drink special can either come with big balls, little balls, or no balls (if you get my drift).
dang! i have jury duty on the 6th also. but..i'd probably get kicked off because i would argue that the entire situation was far too hilarious to take seriously, and would insist on wearing my star trek uniform.
CAN HAS TRIAL!
OK, I've returned to my lolEd-making ways. Thanks to sfbike for the flickr image.
I wonder what kinda deal Jew Sr worked out with the DA?
Maybe no jail time for him since he lied about his voter registration too, in return for snitching??
Anyone know?
Quickly is the worst place to get drinks, anyway. They're sooooo watered down.
Maybe in his world, everybody is smiling and everything is fine. Kinda like Bagdad Bob denying U.S. troops where roasting Saddam Hussein's ass. It is interesting to observe ....
One supposes the $40,000 merchant gratuity bit explains the extra-district representation bit.
"Why on earth would you want to represent an area you don't live in?"
In Ed's case, it would most likely by briefcases with $40,000 cash in addition to your regular salary. Tax free!
My theory is that he didn't expect to win, but by running he thought he could get more juice for his permit-expediting and other businesses. Ideally, he could score a job out at the airport and work near home, but he turned out to be too good of a campaigner for his own good.
It's like the comedy script where the con man falls into a position of real responsibility. Or Happy Gilmore, I'm not sure which.
oh shit!
i think i have jury duty that day
i'll bring a camera phone for everyone
hey kay,
what else do you expect from quickly with ed siphoning off all their profits?
;)
ps are you still mad at me?
FUCKING SCUMBAG! His anus will be filled with plenty of tapioca flavored beef in prison.
By the time this plays out, Fazio will own several pieces of real estate and a flower shop in Chinatown.
Anyone actually surprised this guy was screwing his own people, Theres an old saying that goes quote([DELETED]Sitting On A Fence Trying To Make A Dollar Out Of 15 Cents)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[COMMENT EDITED PER GOTHAMIST COMMENT POLICY]
KCBS is reporting that Gavin Newsome says he meets once a week with Ed Jew and that Jew is doing his supervisorial job. How can this be possible?
If Newsome isn't willing to remove Jew on the basis of the evidence presented at the preliminary hearing, then why isn't anyone starting a recall petition? I'd be delighted to sign one.

Suckafree, Quickly has always been on the low end of the tapioca drink spectrum when it comes to their quality. Which is why they have to focus on quantity -- quantity of products, quantity of locations. Sadly they've displaced many really, really good tapioca drink places that I used to frequent in high school.
P.S. What I am, in regards to you, is not so much "mad" as "tired of reading your frequent, redundant, obsessive, misinformed, preachy drivel" and sometimes "shocked at how personal you make arguments, ie by calling another commenter a dumb ass", and I generally think you've personally taken this site, which I rely on to cure my boredom at work, down a whole ten notches.
