These companies are buying up public water sources for fractions of a cent on the dollar and making big profits. Check out this story about evil corporation Nestle screwing people up by Mount Shasta. http://www.alternet.org/story/52526/

Change the bottle deposit law to raise the per bottle CRV to a dollar each, and watch how many people switch to a Brita tap filter...

Yeah, the story on KTVU, I think it was, made a bigger deal of the fact it is filtered. By being filtered, it may actually be safer than mineral water, which is usually just strait from the source. Of course, I though everyone already knew it was just tap water. The big deal is just that they will say so.

Btw, reusing the cheap plastic bottles isn't a good idea, since the plastic starts to leech into the water after a couple of uses.

If they want to stay in the game they should make bigger deal about the water being filtered. Maybe even partner with a company like Brita or Pur. At least point out the benefits of the type of filtering they use- especially now that is the only unique thing thing about their product. But really- where the hell did people think the water came from? If it was from some natural artesian well or spring it would have said so on the bottle. Look at Fiji & Evian. They won't shut up about their sources.

Dasani flopped in the UK once it was widely known that it was just filtered tap water.

The mayor has it right by wanting to eliminate water bottles, just as the supes have done with the plastic bags. Have you ever seen the aftermath of an event like the B2B? I guess at least the bottles are recyclable.

And yes, I drink bottled water occasionally. It IS convenient, but I usually refill the same bottle 6x over.
