SF Gays Are Boring: Meth Use Down, HIV Rates Stable
Actually, this is some good news:
Wired News just reported about the San Francisco Department of Public Health's finding that speed use among SF gays and SF-native Stephanie Tanner has decreased over the past three years. (Is there some alternative, slimming drug out there that no one's told us about? We kid.) Although the department claims that this new baggie-free lifestyle is due "to successful public health campaigns," drug use outside of crystal meth is still a problem. For some.
And if that wasn't enough joy for you, in related news:
The B.A.R.'s best writer, Matthew Bajko, reports that the San Francisco AIDS Foundation declared (quite dramatically, of course) that the HIV epidemic in San Francisco is, more or less, over. Meaning that for over the past six years HIV has "persist[ed] in the community without substantially increasing or decreasing over time," thus the possibility of reverting to the much-preferred endemic status.

..and then we all went down to the fake Irish pub/glass and blonde wood cube with an exposed brick wall/ersatz rap club/poser themebar in the Mission/ and got really drunk on $12 beers/got in a fight/enjoyed a bleary grope/passed out in a urine-scented hedge, but not until we'd had a great talk about the many ways in which boobs were awesome/what the bouncer's problem was/whether that diet indie bandstitute had sold out/how Chad's ex-girlfriend was a total bitch, but still kinda hot..

The "Gay Stuff" label has been around for a long time.
most sf gays are boring.. but so is most of the city too.. most sf gays are as mainstream as sf straights.. they consider voting for john edwards because his wife is pro-gay marraige.. not that i ever wanna get married or anything lame like that...
thank buhddha for the radical , artsy , biker, stoner queers.. and gay shame... its sad to see that the queer movement seems to have led most of the "community" to a mainstream way. is this what everyone fought for?
